The data export from Flickr is actually really comprehensive and it wouldn’t be difficult to create a static version to self host (on infra already paid for) but do I need another project?

I’m on a mission of cancelling things I’m not using and this one stings every time the money goes out. Especially as by today’s standards the storage is tiny. Most of those photos are like postage stamps!

I do have a backup. Is the trail of broken links that would leave behind that’s a bit sad. But £74 a year for something I’m not using just seems like a waste.

Fellow old folk who have Flickr Pro accounts, what are you doing about your subscriptions? I don’t use Flickr anymore and don’t really want to keep paying the ever increasing subscription, but it looks like if I go free they’ll delete my content. Not sure I have it in me to migrate.

I have fast and fun software that I’ve built with AI that is awesome because it exists, and wouldn’t have existed if I had to build it by hand like my day job.

In a week I’m running London Marathon to raise money for my local community swimming pool that needs repairs to its roof.

No reason. I guess the drive to sync read/unread state and subscription lists across devices has lead us here.

I don’t think we can go back, so I’ve been experimenting with what something in the middle could be. I don’t yet have answers. But I’ve been enjoying using golang 🤷‍♂️

I feel like we’ve taken something that was smart and replaced it with something that is… not smart.
