Teaching tropical #wood anatomy today. Look at this gorgeous #Andira (Fabaceae) and this nice aliform-confluent parenchyma pattern !
I only took the picture with my phone. It's all visible with a naked eye.
This is the third paper from my thesis ๐. This time focusing on paleobiogeographical interpretations with 6 unique species.
Fossil wood is a treasure trove of information waiting to be unearthed ๐ณ.
Many thanks to @annbot.bsky.social for this thread

Amazing workshop last week in Arles, focused on how integrating geological and paleoclimatological constraints in phylogenetic and biogeographic reconstructions! 11 countries, 55 people, and 3 days of talks and brainstorming with a balanced group of biologists, geologists and climatologists.

This is my PhD trophy (a tradition in our team) and I LOVE it! I've indeed worked partly on Dipterocarpaceae... which explains the fruit.

A tropical forest seen from the canopy with a river delta in the horizon and a big monsoon cloud. Blossoming tree in the middle, a Dipterocarpus on the left with fruits and an Artocarpus with fruit on the right.
Not a fossil for #fossilfriday but another #watercolor illustration from the Middle Miocene of Myanmar done by my mother. You can see Dipterocarps in full bloom, a Dipterocarpus and an Artocapus. #paleoart

What is the best collaboration I had ? My mother, who made this watercolor landscape illustration of the Paleocene of Myanmar for one of my thesis chapters ๐ฅณ

Here is an addition to the low-latitude #paleocene fossil record of palm stems and wood.
We highlighted the long-lasting presence of some taxa in Myanmar as well as a diversity of anatomical features similar to the Indian Deccan flora or present-day tropical florae.
Here is the my second thesis paper.

We highlight the abundance of wet evergreen taxa likely related to higher precipitations and a stronger monsoon regime.
