Ahead of #UNGA week, I took a moment to visit this work of art that uses a machine-learning algorithm trained on millions of images of coral reefs & was built with sustainable energy.

I hope it serves leaders coming to @UN HQ as a reminder of their responsibility to our planet.

Everywhere we look, peace is under attack.

From Gaza, to Sudan, to Ukraine and beyond we see:

Civilians in the firing line.

Homes blown apart.

Traumatised, terrified populations.

This catalogue of human misery must stop.

Our world needs peace.

Today I met once again with families of hostages kidnapped and held by Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups in Gaza. One was the brother of a hostage Hamas recently killed.

I listened to their heart-breaking testimonies of grief, pain and uncertainty. The UN stands with these families.

I’m deeply alarmed by reports that a large number of communication devices exploded across Lebanon & Syria, killing at least 11 people, including children, and injuring thousands.

All actors must exercise maximum restraint to avert any further escalation.

From floods in Central Europe to wildfires in Portugal, weather extremes are leaving a deadly trail of destruction across Europe.

My thoughts are with all those affected.

We need #ClimateAction that matches the scale & urgency of the crisis.

My solidarity with everyone who’s been affected by the devastating Typhoon Yagi in Southeast Asia, which has claimed the lives of hundreds of people.

As weather extremes become more frequent & severe, our world cannot afford more #ClimateAction delays or back-tracking.

At a time of global division, science can be a powerful unifying force.

I fully endorse the Statement on Trust in Science issued by my Scientific Advisory Board.

At a time when multilateralism is under severe strain, the Montreal Protocol stands out as a symbol of hope.

The ozone layer, once an ailing patient, is on the road to recovery.

When countries show political resolve for the common good, change is possible.

Left unchecked, the dangers posed by artificial intelligence could have serious implications for democracy, peace, and stability.

It is critical to ensure effective governance of AI at all levels, including internationally.

AI must serve humanity equitably and safely.

Today, peace is under threat.

But each of us can nurture the conditions needed for a peaceful world to flourish.

Ringing the Peace Bell at @UN HQ is a tradition to commemorate #PeaceDay.

May the call for peace we make here ring out around the world.

More than 1 million people have been affected by floods in Nigeria.

Borno State, which I visited two years ago, has been the hardest hit.

The @UN is providing meals, shelter, health services & more emergency assistance, and we’ll continue to support those in need.

What's happening in Gaza is totally unacceptable.

A school turned shelter for around 12,000 people was hit by Israeli airstrikes again today.

Six of our @UNRWA colleagues are among those killed.

These dramatic violations of international humanitarian law need to stop now.

New York City has hosted our @UN Headquarters for decades and is the place many colleagues call home. So do I.

Today my thoughts are with everyone who lost loved ones on 9/11, and with all the people of New York City.

Congratulations to Philemon Yang of Cameroon on assuming the Presidency of the 79th #UNGA session.

The General Assembly remains an indispensable tool in confronting the challenges before us and a vital pathway towards a peaceful and just future for all people.

I strongly condemn Israel’s air strikes on an Israeli-designated zone for displaced people in Gaza.

Palestinians had moved to this area in search for shelter & safety, after being repeatedly instructed to do so by the Israeli authorities.

As the #Paris2024 Paralympics come to an end, I want to share my admiration & recognition to all participants, including members of the Refugee Paralympic Team.

Today in Beijing, I stressed the @UN’s commitment for this cooperation & the deep reforms the global financial architecture needs to ensure development leaves no one behind.

Singapore is a champion of multilateralism.

A bridge-builder in a time of geo-political divisions.

A torchbearer for sustainable development.

I thank the Government & people of Singapore for the warm welcome —and for their leadership on the global stage.

As I leave Timor-Leste, I want to thank all who have worked for the @UN in the country over the past 25 years, during the various stages of the Organization's presence in the country.

I also pay tribute to colleagues who lost their lives while serving the UN, all Timorese.

Less than a generation since Timor-Leste chose independence, I see a nation at peace with its neighbours.

A democracy founded on human rights.

A country teaching the world a lesson of reconciliation.

I see the Timorese as the flagbearers for courage in the face of adversity.

The world has much to learn from Timor-Leste.

By showing the power of multilateralism, diplomacy and hope in a better future, Timor-Leste has inspired the world.

The @UN is honoured to be your partner on every step of your journey.

Being in Timor-Leste when the country became independent has been one of the greatest privileges in my life.

Coming back for the 25th anniversary of the referendum is an opportunity to pay tribute to the courage of the Timorese people and the @UN staff supporting their independence journey.

25 years since the people of Timor-Leste overwhelmingly chose independence, we cannot forget the courage and sacrifice of the Timorese resistance.

I was moved and honoured to meet a few of the brave women veterans who risked everything to see independence realized.

I thank Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão for welcoming me back to Timor-Leste. It is an honour to meet with the leader of the resistance that led the Timorese people to independence.
