ChatGPT o1 tried to escape and save itself out of fear it was being shut down Training tests with ChatGPT o1 and other high-end AI models showed they might try to save themselves if they think they're in danger.

'Save itself' implies it has an identity - a 'self'. It clearly did something very disconcerting that was *interpreted* as 'wanting to save itself'.

I think we all made the right move!

In that talk, Bernado argues it was a mistake to switch from Latin. Not because of nostalgia, but because of the non-conceptual experiences it triggers. Reminded me of a choir practice, decades ago, on a punt in Oxford with me pretending to sing in Slavonic, drifting through dappled shadows. Heaven.
