The boundaries is where the interesting things happen!

Diagram showing a square and a hex terrain grid with water and land, simplified by the dual grid. On the square grid each boundary slice is a rectangle between the midpoints of 4 adjacent tiles. On the hex grid it’s a tringle between 3.

Wish I'd taken the time to figure out @oskarstalberg.bsky.social's dual grid concept earlier. It simplifies everything so much while also enabling nicer tile shapes.

In short: instead of designing tiles, design the boundary slices between them.

Yeah you might think I made this because I'm a good father. But I actually made it to impress our dinner guests. Though maybe that's where most good acts come from?

The whole area looks like this. Unfortunately the drawers to the right can't be used right now bacause our baby keeps rummaging through and emptying them

Well you don't draw on the tiger. It's just a shelf for storage. It does sway a bit when you use it but it doesn't really matter.

My prototype tactical dungeon-crawler card game is now available to play at foldedfox.itch.io/delvetoodeep.... It's free, so there's no excuse to not try it out!

One of my favourite riddles: why does a mirror flip right and left, but not up and down?

Their cat's name is actually Baldur, but they habitually give him on the fly anagram pet names

Aha. Yeah but it's just a hallway, not a place where you spend a lot of continous time, so I'm hoping that's not an issue

I used an egg and linseed oil wall paint I had laying around. But then it's covered in boat varnish

Day 8.

Bad North

Art by the very fantastic @oskarstalberg.bsky.social. To me this game has the perfect scope for an indie game. If I can make a game half as good I'd be so happy!

Townscaper

It's pretty cool that you can play a demo version of Townscaper in the browser at @oskarstalberg.bsky.social 's website.

I own the game thrice (Steam, mobile, Switch), but definitely will share this with friends for them to try!

A view from the water of a fantastic castle in the sea, lit by the rising sun.

Its basic structure is of a tetrahedron stood on one of its vertices supported by stilt-like towers attached at the middle of the sides of the flat top. That triangular top surface is walled off and has a tower at each corner and one in the middle.
In detail, the underside of the inverted pyramid is supported by a forest of metal girders and the resulting vaulting in the brickwork gives the appearance that it's melting.

A bird's eye view of the same castle, now lit by the early morning sun, peeking into the tiered inner courtyards and the outer balconies framed by castle's towers.

To file under "minor indulgence" (No, don't look at my build log!) the Townscaper browser demo, oskarstalberg.com/Townscaper/ , by @oskarstalberg.bsky.social .

Here's something I whipped up just now, trying to make good use of both the space I'm given and the lighting slider.

As some suggested, I got myself an empty refillable pen to fill up with the same paint. Makes cleaning up lines a lot easier. I'll see if I can find one with a bigger container and more flow, as the paint is quite viscous. But all in all, it feels like I've got a good workflow on my hands.
