I'm getting very close on my table top game. I still need to build a website and design a new box but I think I'll be able to do a soft release by Oct/Nov which I would be thrilled about. 🙏

I went down that rabbit hole for a year or two when I got hustled into a cubesat project (I contributed to the high project failure rate in case you were wondering). I really liked The Hobbyist's Guide to the RTL-SDR. Sorry and you're welcome.

Radio Locator. I used to use this in grad school to find fm stations around the world. Pretty sure this was an MIT site back in the early 2000s. Oldie and a goodie.

Depends on if you like them chewy haha. I’m guilty of a 15-20 minute cook to get it like how mami would make it.

Availability of cookies during an academic course session affects evaluation of teaching Hessler et al. question the validity of Student Evaluations of Teaching after demonstrating that provision of chocolate cookies had a significant effect on course evaluation.

Posts on course evaluations remind me of this excellent "study" that provided participants w/ free access to 500 g of chocolate cookies during an emergency medicine course session vs a control group. I always vote for peer course observations.

I’ve been on an ancestry kick of late. I’m roadblocked once I reach about 1800. Much of what I can find is (ahem) thanks to US census reporting after gaining occupancy of Puerto Rico. Mostly generations of island ancestry w/ Canary Islands and Galicia sprinkled in. Also some spicy intrigue haha.

Sound advice for a career transition into a very different field from where you start. The skills are mostly all there once you finish that doctoral work, it's about mindset and filling in gaps. I actually read the whole post so it must have been good! #AcademicSky #HigherEd

Reading about the history of sugar cane plantations in Brasil and in the "sugar islands" and uff that's a story.

My word for the day: sugar (en) or much more pleasant sounding azúcar (es) from sukkar (arabic) from shakar (persian) from sakkarā (sanskrit) referring to the juice from the sugar cane (qasab al-sukkar). The 1st sugar cane planted in the NW was a gift from the gov of the Canary Islands to Colón.

Teaching your first course? Follow these steps Just landed your first adjunct teaching role and don’t know where to start? Here’s how to make the most of your strengths, design a clear syllabus and deliver engaging, manageable sessions

It's hard to believe 3 months have past since The Contingent Professor: Advice for Adjuncts came out. Rob and I wrote up something for people about to teach their 1st course. Grateful to Times Higher Ed's The Campus for the digital soapbox. #AcademicSky

Yup, I'm not likely to hold another academic position. Took me some time to grapple with going from "mid career academic" to "that was my academic career."
