In rl i prefer agile. You can't know everything in advance for good waterfall planning...

With projects I have the problem that most customers want waterfall planning and give you content like working agile 😅
Both have advantages though.

What's your experience?

It wont’t. And you know what? That’s also a nice thing. If you just want to go back in time, you can’t work towards a future that’s worth living in. You waste resources.

At least that is my view on the world. I know not everyone shares it. :)

Which leads them to voting for pretenders who insist they can stop the change and bring back “good old times” (that weren’t that good in the first place).

I do think that in a changing world we would all do well to incorporate a little more agile planning to our lives. You don’t have to do it full blown, like I do. But looking around, people have made their life plans the waterfall way and are now pissed of that the world is changing.

I don’t believe in a life plan. I don’t believe in working and doing stuff “you have to do” until some well deserved retirement. In my worldview there is no retirement. There’s just the environment changing and me changing with it. Or the other way round. But change itself is inevitable.

After reading and hearing about this two (and the associated change management strategies) I had a little revelation about myself. I do live my life the agile way - while most people don’t.

One of the first things we learned about in the first semester was the software engineering process. And in this process the two main planning strategies: “plan driven development” aka. “the waterfall model” and “agile development.

But I was thinking that maybe I can get some useful tools to imagine other possible futures, or any future at all where we (as in we as society) are actually doing something good and have more energy to pursue realizing such a future.

Sounds quite bleak when I write it that way…

That's it! My special prolonged Kira Inktober is done. Thanks to all who followed me and Kira through our years together. I have to admit I did cry a lot when posting those last images. But it's a good hurt.

When Kira lost her hearing, she followed me everywhere, often lying by my side or "blocking" doors to sense if someone moved around.

I imagine her walking through that door on her own when she died. We miss her. 🖤

Very much reminds me of our own cycling (or long hiking) trips. There's always lot's of clouds and rain. 😁

Inktober #33 (Bonus Pic #2) – Resting Day

When Kira turned 16, it was clear to me that this was our last chance for a big trip together. So we went on a 3 week cycling trip through the eastern parts of Austria. Even though we didn’t know it then, it was a beautiful goodbye.

Nicht ganz.. Eben glaub bis Nr 32 🤔
Hatte davor das Buch Musashi von Eji Yoshikawa gelesen. Fand aber die Interpretation von Takehiko noch mal ziemlich cool.

Ich hatte mal die ersten 32 Bände von Vagabond. Erstausgabe. Damals aber bei einem der Umzüge um 2 Euro pro Band verkauft. Jetzt grad mal nachgesehen, was es kosten würde, die wieder zu holen. Hab dann ein bisschen geheult 🥲

Because I decided to draw two pictures for every year of her life, that makes 32 (for 16 years). Plus two extra pics for her last half year - just because I think she deserves it.

That means my Inktober will have 34 pictures 😊

A year before Kira died, we moved again. The new flat had an almost floor-to-ceiling window with a small ledge and a glass railing - it was the perfect dog balcony. She loved lying in the sun, watching the street below.

Kira wasn’t as fast anymore. She needed help getting over obstacles, gravel hurt her paws, and downhill parts were hard on her joints. But you could still see the joy she took in being out and about. So we kept going - just a little slower…

During the year Kira lost most of her hearing. This was the first new year we enjoyed without panicking..
