Watchdog slams UK Government decision not to compensate WASPI women The PHSO and members of the WASPI campaign have given evidence to the Work and Pensions Committee pensioner poverty hearing.

said the UK Government has “undermined” the recommendations in its report by apologising to 1950s-born #WASPI women affected by changes to their State Pension age, but not administering a compensation scheme.

I know that views on the treatment of 50’s women are mixed. But the government’s failure to give serious consideration to the key recommendations of the PHSO should be of wider concern.

Pensioner poverty in the world’s sixth largest economy is a political choice The hardship inflicted on retirees now will surely visit future retirees unless steps are taken to alleviate misery.

Average UK state pension is around £10,500 a year.

It is the only or main source of income for nearly half of all pensioners.

Average UK wage is £37,430.

State pension is less 50% of the minimum wage.

Poverty/Insecurity, premature death awaits all retirees.
