Carraway and Lavender's relationship shockingly feels realistic. It feels like people you would see in real life. I know people don't like drama but DQ always makes it feel compelling in some way.

Playing more of DQVII 3DS:
God is the Carraway quest at Greenthumbs depressing. Almost all the quests are extremely depressing in this game but this is surprisingly realistic and down to earth. Probably the most human quest in all of DQ.

Rover's past coming to haunt them is something I wanted to see more of and with Aemeath it is especially heartbreaking. Imagine the last connection you had to tour humanity essentially doing the same, forgetting you? I'd crash out, too.

You basically get what you want, but in exchange, no one remembers you, you're trapped forever never being able to sleep, eat or interact with anyone, people assume the make you left on the world meant nothing, and yours essentially not alive anymore.

Jeesh all the Lahai Roi cast members have had it rough so far, but Aemeath probably got it the worst. Imagine agreeing to save the world to some alien only for it to backfire entirely.

3DS in my opinion is the definitive experience. The 3DS models and cutscenes are genuinely good and outside of vocations and the opening, very little is changed. It's mostly non-destructive QoL.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined Review | RPG Site Dragon Quest VII Reimagined succeeds at streamlining a lengthy adventure at the expense of player discovery and friction, leading to a version that feels like Diet Dragon Quest VII.

Overall, this is not a bad game, but in terms of a Reimagining, it feels less than desirable.

+You may have heard about the cut content with some of the islands. Some are fair (casinos) others are weird. One of the islands being cut still had the set up for that cut island STILL in the dialogue. I am amazed this was not revised.

+The fragment hunt is a joke. Even if you turn off markers, the game still directly tells you where to go. Party dialogue was adjusted to tell players exactly what to do and it makes the dialogue feel less organic. Fragments are outright given to you more often than not.

+Continues work like in the HD-2D remakes but feels less balanced overall. Because you can die and be left with 1HP, you might as well just reload your last save completely or just spend the money that is incredibly generous in this game. You might as well have infinite lives playing normally.

+There is a Goddess Statue to heal you in every dungeon I've played through currently. +When you get wiped, your party doesn't truly die. You just leave battle with 1HP (which defeats the point of the continue system!)

+The game heavily improved the combat and hard mode is genuinely challenging, but the game is so afraid of the player getting lost that they throw every bit of challenge out the window minus key bosses.

+Items are in one unified inventory (good) but unlike every other DQ game you can't use equipment in battle for its effect. For example, if Maribel has a staff, she can only use it with its effects. You can't use its effects if it's just an item and not equipped (why??)

My current thoughts on DQVIIR is that the game really has me torn. Like, it's clear that there was a lot of love put into it, but the devs made some incredibly baffling decisions:
+The opening is cut even more and feels incredibly awkward, mashing together several fetch quests that are disjointed.

People seem confused but demographics are just treated differently in Japan compared to overseas. A Magical girl existing isn't inherently equating a Shoujo. There are plenty of non-Shoujo magical girls!
