I'm going to plead one more time for all of you to remember this isn't a game, this isn't an opportunity for you to get clicks or show off your punditry skills. There are real people dying, and real people from this place that can see how flippant you're being. And it's fucking enraging.

Palestinian liberation's a litmus test for those who claim themselves as 'progressives'. Saw lots of academics & politicians of marginalized backgrounds support the occupation. Doesn't matter that they are also of colonized peoples. Residing w/ power is what's important for them.

As an Indonesian who grew up w/ stories abt how my ancestors fought against the Dutch armed only w/ bamboos & machetes it's clear to me that the colonized must fight their colonizers w/ whatever they have & whichever ways available to them. #PalestineResists #fromtherivertothesea

Bought my tickets late last month, and I didn't have options to choose tickets w/ layover in the US bcs immigration reason :) I ended up spending all of my small grant money only for airfare :) such is the precariousness of a junior scholar

Can't wait to be back in Indonesia. To be grounded in the soil and society that nurture my scholarship. Sound, sights, and smells that adorn my work. Wisdoms and knowledge(s) that guide my inquiries ❀️

My current bluesky circle looks like an AAR gathering, and I really need some Indonesian non-academic friends to change it. lol

One thing that I still miss from this app is my interactions w/ Indonesian folks. Those who speak our language, and actually dwell in our issues. Where my Indonesian folks at?

For a non-international scholar, it's Teaching, Research, and Service. For international scholars, it's Teaching, Research, Service, and Immigration. Tackling the immigration process itself should be counted into tenure process.

As a Visiting Prof in Canada whose work permit falls under a special statute, I can't even get the full healthcare in this country, though I am contributing to the country in terms of tax and my service to the uni. 'Precarious' doesn't even explain the complexity of being an international scholar.

In order for me, an international scholar, 2receive my salary in Canada from my US employer in my capacity as a visiting prof in a Canadian institution, I needed a Canadian work permit whose application was also translate to so much time, financial resources, and energy.

In order for me, an Indonesian scholar, 2be able to teach my in-person course in my campus next year, I need to go back to Indonesia to process my visa stamp on my passport, even though I already have a worker status in the US.

Even now as an international scholar I spend much energy, financial resources & time 2sustain my immigration status. Just last week, my employer & close family who r americans/canadians didn't believe that I can't even do layover in the US w/out US visa stamp on my passport.

So glad that I greet & check in with my research dialogue partners regularly on social media and whatsapp. Now that I am about to resume my fieldwork, they are already opened to the conversation #BorderTheologies

It was a great forum w/ brilliant discussion from Dr. Benjamin Hegarty abt his book, The Made-Up State! I literally can't emphasize more of how important this book is for the field of Indonesian Studies. The Indonesian Decolonial Hangout crews learned a lot from Dr. Hegarty today!
