It’s showing wear. It was done in 1984-5, this pic from 1987 (I can’t find one right now of beams with roses but this is another wall in same room). Artist was using 15thc techniques as far as possible but it was a learning experience & wore faster than expected. Mellow now but was pretty intense!

Our local cheese, Suffolk Thump was said to be so hard you could use it in place of shot if you ran out, so….

"some do utterly abhorre cheese and hit is to them as poyson so some other do naturally love cheese and hit is to them a better foode in respecte nature doth deleighte in hitthen any other meate. And therefore Hippocrates in this place doth evidently declare that cheese is not to mankinde hurtefull"

‘he that will judge whether cheese be a convenyent foode for him, must consider the nature of the body, and the temperamente of the cheese and both considered he shalbe hable to judge whether he is like to take harme be cheese or not.’
