Schematic overview of the positive perspective paradigm. The positive perspective paradigm postulates that the early stages of a chronic inflammatory disease present an optimal time window where appropriate intervention might positively influence one’s health perspective, in turn contributing to reduced long-term disease impact. Specifically, we propose that such an intervention should involve the prompt control of inflammation with appropriate pharmacotherapy, as well as tailored patient education and psychosocial support with a focus on positive communication from the time of diagnosis. The main hypothesis of the model is that both these types of interventions will lead to less patient-experienced disease impact both directly and through positive effects on patients’ health perspective

Understanding physical activity participation in people living with rheumatoid arthritis
AbstractObjective. We examined self-reported physical activity (PA) levels (metabolic equivalents expended (METs)/week and muscle strengthening/resistance
We are good at promoting "movement" in Rheumatoid Arthritis, but are we neglecting "strength"?
🏃♀️ 67% of patients meet aerobic activity guidelines.
🏋️♀️ Only 29% meet muscle strengthening targets.
The missing link? Confidence and clinician support.

Infographic titled "2025 in review(s)" from Springer Nature. Statistics show 4 manuscripts reviewed, 3 resulting publications, 35 authors benefited, 2 journals reviewed for, and a 10-day average to complete a report. Top journals listed are BMC Rheumatology and Arthritis Research & Therapy.
Glad to have supported 35 authors in the BMC Rheumatology and Arthritis Research & Therapy this year.
Next time you get an invite to #review, ask the editor if you can mentor a PhD student through the process. This helps reduce the reviewer 2 syndrome.

Always best to start gradually, ideally under the guidance of a physiotherapist or specialist familiar with systemic sclerosis, to ensure they account for factors like skin tightness, fatigue, or cardiopulmonary involvement.

Let’s ask the patient: disease prediction based on patients’ symptom descriptions in free text
AbstractObjective. This study evaluates the value self-reported free-text symptom descriptions for supporting diagnostic decisions in osteoarthritis (OA),
AI and NLP analysed >8,400 patient-written free-text symptom descriptions.
Clinically relevant patterns helped distinguish #osteoarthritis, #fibromyalgia and immune-mediated rheumatic diseases.
This may reduce misdiagnosis and support earlier triage.
