The extra weird thing is I think they're Eastern or Central European.

It would be great for Americans to stop finding ways to surprise me by the fidelity with which they can mirror russia.

Yes, motivated reasoning can really take people to some dark and bizarre places.

They really do think we owe them something, and that they have the leverage to collect. Thinking back to this bizarre discussion.

Darkly funny. Because of course it would. The Noble Rural myth strikes again.

For sure, but when 20% of global oil consumption is blocked, a quarter of that still moving seems like an important thing, and I'm just pointing out that it's weird that half the mentions of the word "Petroline" in the past four months on this website are in this thread.

But its a single pipeline with large pumping stations, and therefore a strategic target vulnerable to attack from Houthis or Iranian missile or drone attack or small group sabotage.

It seems strange there’s not more talk on here or in the news about Saudi Arabia’s Petroline, capable of transporting 5 million bpd (7M reported surge capacity) west across the country to bypass the Straight of Hormuz. This is the majority of what would otherwise be exported via the Persian Gulf.

Yikes. I worked with a sous-chef that had staged (unpaid internship in high-end kitchens) at noma. He had nothing but great things to say about the place, but that doesn't mean there wasn't abuse when he was there. There's a culture of bravado in kitchens that insulates this kind of abuse.

The quality of their crude helps them here too.

I think you'd need to get into years rather than months for there to be much concern.

β€œOf course crimes of war are something different”. Okay great. Every russian soldier that has set foot in Ukraine since 2014 is committing a war crime.

You know, Oman isn't as nefarious an actor as the others, and so "wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire" may be harsh. But I still don't think repressive monarchies generally are compatible with allyship for us.

I wonder if Iran considered the enemy they made in Ukraine with the Shaheds, all for absolutely nothing in assistance from russia when they needed it.

Not to mention tarnishing our good name and reputation by helping Trump's violent spasms of imperialism. This is a crystal clear line we should not cross. We're through with being lapdogs. If Iran starts targeting Paris, Berlin, Warsaw: of course. But not Dubai.

There's not a single regime on the Gulf that I would piss on to put out a fire. Let the americans defend their vassals.

Somehow I doubt any of them will ride to our defense if Trump invades.

In this case it’s manifesting differently because despite operational success, the strategic consequences are more readily apparent.

Watling and others at RUSI have been good too, but I think we can count them in the 7.
