I'm trying the tagless 3-person dialogue exercise (3 characters talk with no indicators to work out their voices) but as if a digital group chat. Not all that different, but kinda fun to learn which of my characters would use which emojis and why!

Right! Eeeeveryone knows *that guy* (or some of us are that guy) and it's very funny to satirize yourself that way!

I've written one of my annoying personality traits into one of my characters: petty linguistic nitpicking (for example, finding "less vs. fewer" mistakes annoying). I was unsure about how it would read, but it actually gives me a nice belly laugh.

For other writers out there, how have you found success with beta readers? There are plenty of places findable online, but many of them seem... dubious at best. I'd love to do mutual feedback, but a lot of what I find seems a bit one-sided...

I've recently started writing a book. Well, I've returned to it. I tried once many moons ago and ran out of steam before I even really started. I think my other creative endeavors have kind of given me a foundation of patience and grace for the process. It might suck now, but that's normal! #writing

I showed my family what my game consists of at the moment. My teenage sister's immediate impression was, "it reminds me of Stardew Valley!"

That is literally the highest praise I could have asked for (it doesn't even hold a candle to SDV)

I definitely get that feeling, but I get around it by making sure I leave off at an acceptable "chapter" so that I can easily piece together what I was working on. It probably won't work for everyone but I definitely feel more trusting of past me if I know I finished a finite task!

Exactly! Staring at the same thing for too long really warps your perspective on it and can lead to tunnel vision for sure

One of my favorite things about game dev (or solo dev, at least) is that I don't need to worry about burning out on any one task

I can just... like... work on a different part of the game. It makes it very easy to give myself a fresh perspective as I loop around
