Fairholmes car park at Derwent Dam is the best place to park for Alport Castle. My route (from Paul Besley's 'Dark Peak Walks') was about 7.5 miles.

The wind certainly made things interesting!

It's not a 'real' castle I'm afraid. It's the largest landslip in the UK and gets its name from its resemblance to a ruined castle. Still well worth a visit though.

It's certainly an inspiring route!

I've walked along the bottom of the Dale quite a few times. First time walking along the top. Gives you a different perspective on a familiar place.

I'm going back to Ribblehead next month to walk up Whernside.

Just started exploring the Yorkshire Dales. Up to now my focus has been the Peak District as it's my nearest National park.

It was both of those things! The climb up to Park Fell from Ribblehead was the hardest bit.

Nice picture. I tend to lose sunglasses (2 pairs to date). There's a pair of mine up on Combs Moss somewhere near Hob Tor!

Went from Litton. Only 5 miles, but it packs a lot in!

No sign of any glasses I'm afraid! I always keep mine zipped up in the top pocket of my backpack.
