A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

ICE kidnapped a 7th-grader with a pending asylum claim and spirited him out of state without notifying his parents, seemingly with the cooperation of the local police in Everett, MA.

Why a NASA satellite that scientists and farmers rely on may be destroyed on purpose The Trump administration has asked NASA staffers to draw up plans to end at least two satellite missions that measure carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, according to current and former NASA employees.

Head of NASA Sean Duffy intends to destroy a satellite that collects key data on carbon dioxide and plant health, by causing it to burn up in the atmosphere. The U.S. Dept of Agriculture and private agriculture firms use the data to forecast crop yield, drought conditions and more.

The summary is that they are trying to criminalize every aspect of homelessness so they can arrest & forcibly commit unhoused people. Currently(/before), there are not enough mental health & substance use treatment beds/facilities, and this does not add anything, which only leaves imprisoning people

This letter appeared in the Bloomsburg PA Press Enterprise this morning. I am assured the writer is who he purports to be, an Air Force veteran.

Real Q, does the Trump White House have anyone with an economics degree in it?

Wait, why is Trump anti-condoms for Hamas?? I thought he was trying to get rid of them…

Done with the “game of inches”, just round to the nearest half-yard line and give the Bills the first down. Saying he didn’t get there because some ref saw through him is dumb #chiefs

I understand what they are going for, but I just feels like it’s a participation trophy for movies that people enjoyed that won’t win any other awards

There’s been at least 6 official claims outside of the BCS/CFP since then, but I guess that’s the “history” he wants

Really depends on the energy used to make it. If you use excess clean energy (like solar on a really sunny day), then you are using that hydrogen as an energy store.

Good intermediate solution and potential as an aviation fuel

None of the 1-4 seeds made it to the final four of the #CFP. In the old system, they would’ve been simply placed there

When you let them play it out on the field, no one actually knows who’s going to go all the way

I can think of no better justification for the expanded playoff system

And at least second round too

If they got rid of AQs then it would but the committee was also pushing hard for a 5 AQ+3 AL. Because of Clemson, OSU would have been last one out.

Maybe the committee would ranked them differently in that scenario though

16 team with 10 AQ was my preferred but then conference realignment messed that up

You know what, you got a valid point for 8 there

Agree on most, except I think I would get rid of automatic hosting for top 5 CC. You get in but get ranked based on the whole season.

I don’t think Clemson deserved a home game

8 with AQs leaves out Ohio State

02.01.2025 02:28 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

8 would leave out Ohio State. Make it 16 and give teams the advantage in seeding and home field advantage throughout (except Natty)

02.01.2025 02:26 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

8 would have left out Ohio State. 16 with AQs, no byes was the answer. It allows teams to get momentum/confidence and decide seeding on the field

02.01.2025 02:24 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Most common 8-team playoff was 5 AQ+3 AL model. Ohio State wouldn’t have even been in. Agree that byes should go though

I’m just a big proponent of more teams and let them settle it on the field instead of the boardroom. Should hopefully lead to better later rounds.

Oregon seems to be a good example of that currently and you will probably get more blowouts in the early rounds.

Gonna be interesting to hear what the “8 Team CFP people” have to say after a blowout or 2 in the 2nd round…

22.12.2024 02:25 — 👍 3    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

The top seeds all won, so UT/OSU would be the re-seed. Issue should be with the auto byes to the top 4 conference champs

22.12.2024 02:19 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Yeah I’d like to see that change but still crazy that none of the underdogs showed up. I think you could argue that 2 of those teams shouldn’t be here, but 4… not sure how you fix that
