Meaning: Scientists are doing their investigative work, which should ideally resault in a publication. Strangely enough, when journals want to publish their work, scientists will gather quite large sum of money and pay the journal instead, probably as a sign of appreciation.

Your personal involvement and pain is meritorious, but will your grant grant agency be so benevolent about your mischief?😵‍💫

Example: "We have had a mutant in ABP1 protein with promising phenotype, but sourprisingly, we were not able to complement it."

Meaning: You need to break up with your very promissing idea from preliminary data and was a part of the former proposal/report and now you need to painfully abandon it for lack of evidence supporting it.

Yes, that's right. Just wanted to try to pinpoint sometimes quite unnecessary workload accompanying the neutral locus game (in this case you would need to perform ca 10x more transformations to proove the same point). Anyway, thank you for the insights!

So able to get it to the plant, it's working, but not enough to pick ones integrated correctly. Now you are in the situation, where you are able to show things, but becouse neutral locus fetish (I think that it wouldn't be much different if they would be integrated correctly), it's unpublishable

This is fine and I agree with that. But for example, now I do have a double mutant with a severe phenotype and wanted to put things to the neutral locus. The mutant transformation efficiency is super low (ca 3 transformants per dish).
