Heat Pump Rate
If you use a heat pump to heat all or part of your home, you can take advantage of a new, reduced distribution and transmission rate during the winter months.
I think all the utilities share this info through Mass Save. If you think you qualify for the HP rate but haven't received an email or paper confirmation, you should reach out to Eversource. www.eversource.com/residential/...

Hmmm. According to the state, the VAST majority of people who have heat pumps got them in 2019 or later and will be enrolled automatically. For those who got a heat pump before 2019, the utilities have directions online for how to sign up. (Are you in this category? Let me know how the sign up goes)

A notification from Eversource saying that this customer has been automatically enrolled in the heat pump rate.
Tomorrow, 11/1, tens of thousands of Massachusetts residents who heat their homes with #heatpumps will start getting a discounted electric rate that lasts through April.

States would normally have the bulk of their annual LIHEAP appropriations by this point in the fall so they can start helping people with winter heating bills in November.
This year, they haven't received anything. And it's not clear when, or if, they will

The government shutdown is delaying a critical heating assistance program in Mass.
With the government shutdown, there's no money for LIHEAP, the federally-funded heating assistance program for low-income households.
Winter is coming... Typically, states would have already received billions of dollars of federal money for a critical heating assistance program.
But #LIHEAP funds are delayed this year because of the government shutdown and lack of a spending bill

If you aren't automatically enrolled -- maybe you got a heat pump before 2019 or didn't use Mass Save -- you'll need to enroll manually. The utilities will publish info online soon, they say, for how to do this.
