What do you use to generate these neat surface code illustrations? I recently found a stackexchange thread where you replied saying you're writing svgs from scratch, is that still the case πŸ˜…?

Early Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing As quantum computing transitions into the fault-tolerant regime, understanding how best to utilize available architectures becomes paramount.

This perspective paper from 2024 uses it in the latter sense you describe (afai can tell), which also makes most sense for the name imo. I agree that the former is just FTQC.

Damn, I would have sounded so much smarter if I said something along the lines of: "what a nice coincidence that we have a golden euro-cad conversion rate." Chance missed πŸ₯²

That's 13-15 qubits, nothing quantum Shannon decomposition can't handle! So I'm not too worried about that :) or am I missing something crucial here?

Another way to view it: Great! Now we have a very good initial state in form of that MPS to run quantum algorithms on πŸ™ƒ

All I want for christmas is a (better) quantikz equivalent for @typst.app (and arxiv+journal support)

Using overleaf.com after typst.app just feels like going around in a horse-drawn carriage in 2025 - gets you from A to B, and is kinda cool and vintage, but just extremely slow and cumbersome.

To be fair the first week after switching back from daylight saving time feels like having one extra hour per day, but that never lasts long.

I totally get that some people prefer it. I just feel like true early birds by choice of profession still have to get up in the dark anyway 🀷

Wait, daylight saving time is summer time, right? That one, I love! But I guess that is not what you mean :D That "exact <boom> it's winter" moment is what hits me hard every year.

I heard someone say reverting daylight saving time in October is like "trading one hour of sleep (once) for five months of darkness" and now I cant unhear it.

The first novel thing I did in quantum computing was find a way add +1 to a register using O(1) space and O(n) gates. For 10 years I've wanted to know how to generalize that from x+=1 to x+=C... and I finally figured out a way to do it!
