To be clear, though, Scrivener does let you export to standard file types! You just have to remember to do it, because people without it won't be able to open a scriv file.

If you just need word processing, it makes sense to do Libre! Scrivener really is for PROJECTS, like where you're storing articles/notes or need separated chapters or want to keep updating your biblio & stuff. (Affiliate link if you do want to try it www.literatureandlatte.com/scrivener-af...)

I will say, I got it as a gift for college graduation in 2010, so
a) probably the longest-running gift ever
b) in that time, all updates but one were free, and the one I paid for was maybe like $5? @scrivenerapp.bsky.social is an exceedingly generous, fair, and ethical company

You definitely CAN use Scrivener for more! You just won't be able to share docs with people easily until you export to more common filetypes

No, I mean, if I were to write a quick letter or update my resume or something, I'd probably still use a simple word processor. But anything that feels like a "project" goes in Scrivener. It's so nice to be able to store other docs, images, random notes, etc in one file!

This is insane because I am 37 and spent my entire childhood on a bike, but today I internet-taught myself how to degrease and lube the chain and cassette for the first time in my life instead of just destroying my bicycle and then taking it into the shop!

Not sure what constitutes "everyday..." at work I use google docs for most stuff because it always ends up collaborative, but for most personal writing I use it

Plus, I must say that I, like Bartleby, would actually prefer not to write most of the time, so it feels like it understands me
