Uta Frith has a long and highly esteemed research role in autism. This article is a valuable exploration of where our understanding of the types of autism is now and whether the concept of a smooth spectrum remains appropriate.

Is this going to go on day by day until 2029? You tell us people change their minds. Hold on for a long rollercoster ride.

Looking for basic information, yes, but scrolling through endless reviews to follow the crowd to a popular restaurant is a no for me. Anyway, all this wasn't possible when I started taking holidays. Guidebooks were the thing then.

Toby Young elevated to the House of Lords. No way this makes sense.

The return of teacher led SEND education is a positive step. Teachers know what helps children learn and make progress when they gain extra support. Where there is uncertainty, a specialist can be consulted. This was my experience of schools pre 2014. It worked. Now we need the staff, not toys

Schools need to be able to do the job that is being asked of them. The whole pastoral care, wellbeing, inclusion, SEND aspects of supporting young people at school is under funded. It's not an after thought to curriculum delivery. Learning success needs good foundations built by schools in school.

Sighs. Sad but inevitable. I just wish lawyers had to cap their fees to the average teacher pay.

It's ridiculous to leave the coordination of support for children with special needs to 1 person. It's a big responsibility. Schools need to be better prepared. A senior team led by an inclusion coordinator in 2ndry. Primaries need more teacher time to liaise with SENDCo. Inclusion isn't a bolt on

This is a step that needs to be taken.

I do hope this will attract experienced EPs back to public service. A broader role and more time to support schools will be a big draw.

The inspection of trusts and their financial and educational performance is long overdue.

Im sorry to hear your experience was difficult. The last decade hasn't been a good one for children with additional needs

Children who are known to multidisciplinary teams pre-school will have the necessary assessments and evidence.

SEND provision has been overwhelmed and not working well for a while.

Up to 20% of children may have special needs at some time during their education. The white paper refers to everyone needing support rather than the 5% who have EHCPs. This is why a graduated system will be in place.

25.02.2026 11:43 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

My reading is that EHCPs will remain the top tier with 3 graduated school led arrangements. This will ensure timely support and remove the scrabble for the only support available post 2014. Children identified pre-school with complex needs can move straight to EHCP assessment.

Health practitioners record their engagement and offer action plans. This would be shared. I had 30 years of experience working with graduated support for SEN, as it was pre 2014 when the D was added. EPs and health staff shared records of their involvement.

When the EP vacancies are filled, hopefully including some returners , then schools will have more support than currently.

The uk is one of the few countries starting formal education early. Not everyone is convinced.

Im curious about curriculum, where evidence and science inform content. Im aware that evidence based tools can be used to aid learning, but there's a gap about how content is decided, especially at the earlier stages of primary education. Is there a developmental framework similar to the EYFS.
