I think this might work, but if it can't, and institutions resist change... and if you *had* to come up with a way to get people to agree to a process for fact finding and problem solving, checking identities at the door, what would you do? Really interested...

Only a fan of 'engineering fixes' when the alternative is nearly impossible institutional change. But isn't it testable? Can one pay partisan individuals to *behave as though* a priori process agreement is more important than identity-driven motivated reasoning? And does such dialog have impact?

Agree.. and nicely argued. But do we need to go quickly to step 2- What are the proposals TO FIX THIS? How about raising a fund to defeat those forces- PAY left/right dyadic teams in competitions to ditch identities, agree on fact sources, produce problem solutions via unmotivated reasoning...?

100% And the stories have to include plot lines and characters that are engaging will result in reach to those who otherwise wouldn't be exposed to the crucial embedded message you cite. If that identity message is too obvious/primary it may not be seen by and register with that audience.

Yes, agreed..Are any academic teams testing ways to solve the problem? ie, ways to gain/keep attention of Fox/MSNOW captives at scale, convey facts in non-threatening ways, produce more L/R overlapping concepts of ground truth? Any social-science 'Manhattan Projects' for this? Ideas are around..

Kudos for asking this. One proposal: Team competition for $- people on left and right are paired up, research/discuss a topic, produce one-pager on what they agree to. For scaling, AI picks winning teams. $ comes from white-hat ad model and/or billionaires with love of functional societies.

Sure- but shouldn't people making your argument propose ways of ensuring a persuasive message *reaches* a bipartisan audience? Much evidence that this is extremely difficult; so without suggesting creative solutions to that problem, the argument in your comment is itself less persuasive...

Ah. OK, well I back up to: What kind of content *can* reach college students, and can any messaging on current events be embedded..? Or is their non-academic content landscape so fragmented that any attempt to reach significant numbers would entail huge production/delivery costs?

Do we need a forum for creative solution brainstorming on how to break through where young people live? Anime, graphic novels, TikTok vids, where fictional characters, in absorbing plots, talk btw about real current events with pointers to balance media diet options?
