Follow the Money vroeg de Europese Commissie om inzage in de technische beschrijvingen van Thorns screening software, genaamd Safer. De Commissie weigerde dit verzoek op grond van het argument dat dit het commerciële belang van de stichting te veel zou schaden. Na overleg met Thorn verstrekte de Commissie, deels zwartgelakte, beleidsdocumenten en notulen van een bijeenkomst tussen Commissie-ambtenaren en de stichting. Een document met de naam ‘Tegengaan van vals-positieven’ werd niet gedeeld. Follow the Money diende hierover een klacht in bij de Europese Ombudsman. Die oordeelde dat de terughoudendheid van de Commissie in het openbaar maken van documenten niet in lijn is met de transparantieregels van de EU. Toegang tot de documenten is van belang om ‘burgers in staat te stellen effectief deel te nemen aan een besluitvormingsproces dat zeer waarschijnlijk hun dagelijks leven direct zal beïnvloeden door hun recht op privacy te beperken’, aldus Ombudsman Emily O'Reilly.

EU Commission food system solutions are killing local food production, harming farmers livelihoods, without making significant improvement to environment. Farmers needs financial support to transform agriculture to one, that uses less chemicals, bartering natural seeds and why not also land use?

If I were into politics, I would definitely support local farmers. I cannot imagine the consequences if the other parties distance themselves from farmers struggle, leaving them subject to far right political parties manipulation, who shamelessly leverage the situation.
