I’d argue that model proteins already exist and those of us who work with them (e.g. gb1 or ubiquitin) to benchmark new biophysics constantly get criticized for how relevant these studies are and being told to do it on a real protein.

Ill add more context when I get back from HI, but we were able to make mimetics for high mannose glycans (HMGs) such as man-5, Man-9, as well as competitive inhibitors to HMG binding to the model lectin GRFT. These tools also let us investigate intramolecular avidity GRFT uses to recognizes HMGs.
