Played a co-op/imsortofdming game of wasteland warfare with my friend and his gf over the weekend. Forgot to take pictures. Very fun. Continuing to play with paint on the starter set. Skin study and, how can I be quick but not hate it. Painterly sort of vibe.

We interrupt our scheduled programming to WIP post an unusually handsome scavenger and a wastelander loading a double barrel headed straight towards a Super Mutant gore nest. They're from the kind of terrible PVC starter set, so I'm just messing around with paint.

Deathmark templated. Need to push opacity here and there, smooth out a couple gradients for the next ones, but overall looking like a plan.

The set-up has not changed from looking exactly like this for two weeks.
You're almost done. You're almost done. You're almost done.

Finally rounding the corner on my Immortals and Deathmarks. Just need to finish the glow, then do clean up. Feel like I could paint them with my eyes closed after batching so many. Still have 10 Lychguard to paint before getting to my roster of characters.

Casual game with my friend. Been about a year since we've played. He takes a bit to remember rules and such so it was a no pressure game. Called end of round 3 while I was up 20 points. Casino cannon whiffed every shot but the last, annihilating the warsuits.

Still just trudging along. AP's Death Metal makes for an interesting shade to standard gold. The green undertones compliment the highlight nicely.

I love the classic scheme, but I always chose the most annoying thing to do 🙃
I really like the two tone shield on the Lychguard, and the blue/silver on the death marks gives really nice blocks of contrast!
While I'm definitely eyeing up the new Vallejo Metallics range with giddy anticipation, there is still a place in my heart for AP TMs. The new Death Metal wasn't the true black I was after from the old range, but, actually, wow it looks cool.

There's a good haul ! I'm stuck forever in the Necron grind.

Thank the Gods, I can finally move on to painting something interesting like metallics and glow.

As the world is marveling at the photograph of the first evidenced leucistic Iberian Lynx, I forgot that I had also spotted a very rare leucistic animal in my city a while back: the so-called Ghost Magpie!

Oh, I've seen some beautiful work done with colour shift metallics. I'm very excited to work with them myself.

Interesting the subtle yet composition changing difference a thin highlight can make. Even from a distance, the smallest amount of paint is noticed as a whole. I don't know if that's inspiring or depressing.

The resin extension kits for these deathmarks are such a major pain to use. Arms refuse to fit correctly. But, it's 25 bucks or so to use up those spare guns. Hard to pass up.

A whole month. What a while it's been. Started a new job, provincially employed. Much happier. Keeping up with my weight loss goals. Caught (manifested?) Shingles. Would not recommend. Still just layering Necrons. Painting the grey on some cloaks was oddly exciting.

Mmhm. I tend to read very quickly, stopping to reread certain passages over and over. So we definitely have a sharp distinction in perspective there.
Well, I think it's a shame you could not enjoy the book since I believe it's one of my favourite 40k novels. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Yeah, I think that's why I'm struggling to put myself in your line of thought. I read the novel to read about Trazyn and Orikan and the necrons and their wacky adventures. So the story just appears in front of me to enjoy. For you, it seems, you are asking yourself "should I stop reading this"?
22.09.2025 18:53 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I can see that. Especially with no narrative primer on the wider universe. If you went into the novel with a classical eye and took it very seriously. It's a very interesting perspective to me. I think I read the novel to just enjoy an adventure. A self justifying pursuit. Reading it to read it.
22.09.2025 18:50 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0It was odd coming from finishing Andor, then watching it entirely again, to watch Ashoka all the way through. It's a very "STAR WARS" show which Andor is not. But, I liked it.
22.09.2025 18:40 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Huh, I find this a little strange. I suppose there is an amount of baseline knowledge 40K books ask. A WW2 novel requires knowledge, any period piece really. 40K books sort of are period pieces. But, I read a book to know the characters. Which can take time, right? Not always the first chapter.
22.09.2025 18:34 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Hmmm. Do you feel like you don't understand Trazyn as a character after the opening adventure? I had prior knowledge going into the book, but I thought it's established who he was well and prompted curiosity towards the final purpose of the sequence. Which, it does pay off in the end.
22.09.2025 18:31 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Not to be too abrasive, but do you normally dislike Cold Opens? The point of the destruction of the exodite temple is to introduce you to Trazyn as a character, not really to create a sense of dramatic tension. The novel does a very good job with foreshadowing as well.

Been keeping to my goal of painting at least 20-30 minutes a day. Hasn't been anything exciting. Layering up the sandstone-esque bodies of my necrons. Waylaid by other hobbies, other concerns. New job coming up. Old projects built out.
Watching the US recently. Posts of old FB friends. Concerned.
I think the airbrushed base layers have helped me visualize the specific shapes of volumes. Something I've struggled with. Now I feel like I'm starting to get it.

...And with fire came disparity. Heat and cold, life and death, and of course, Lightning and Big.
