Today, Sheilagh O'Leary and I announced the NDP commitment to removing the provincial HST from all forms of home heating. Not just electricity, but wood, oil, and propane. We would keep the $500 oil rebate in place to ensure that we are getting more money back into peoples pockets.

I had an excellent time out canvassing in Arnold's Cove with our candidate for Placentia West-Bellevue Jasmine Paul. Thank you to everyone who took the time to speak to us. I know that Jasmine will be a strong voice for the people of this district.

That’s why today, along with Henry House, NDP candidate for Conception Bay East–Bell Island, I announced that an NDP government will phase out for-profit shelters and reinvest in the non-profits that are doing the work people in this province need.

We should have a government that prioritizes the people of this province above all else.

We’ve got people who are trying to help through non-profits but they just aren’t getting the support from the government – the Liberals are choosing to prioritize for-profits corporations.

Today, as part of the NL NDP’s commitment to becoming the most transparent government in the province’s history, I announced that we would end the revolving door between NL cabinets and corporate boards who have interests before the province by extending the cooling off period for elected officials.

This morning before heading to Labrador, I announced the NDP's Regional Transit Strategy.

For far too long, Successive Liberal and Conservative governments have focused on what they can take from Labrador while ignoring the people who actually live here and make this province run.

I have had the absolute privilege of representing the district of St. John’s Centre since 2019 working hard to ensure that constituents’ needs are heard.

We all have a story about where we were on September 11, 2001. Here in Newfoundland and Labrador, our story is one of compassion, resilience, and community.

Today, we remember the lives lost and honour the contributions of our province in the face of tragedy.

Thank you to the many teachers, support staff, parents, and volunteers who make our schools successful and who continue to be forces of positive change in the lives of our students.

Welcome back, and I wish you a safe and successful school year.

I also know that the same concern, community spirit, and resiliency that unites us in supporting affected communities will help us meet those challenges head on.

As in previous years, keep safe, look after each other, and be patient with each other and ourselves.

This year, wildfires have disrupted the beginning of the school year for several of our school communities and will present ongoing challenges for families, students, and school staff.

I extend a warm welcome back to the many students, parents, teachers, and support staff who will be returning to our province’s schools today.
