I've never been more frustrated with my community than I am now. All kinds of bullshit was preventable if yal didn't cling to whiteness to save you, all while literally silencing or excommunicating us for your privilege. Some are still labeled by Asuka's field as transphobic for speaking out.

Agree 100% but damn it sucks seeing how they've been doing this to Black femmes - esp Black trans femmes - to routine silence, then seeing so many folk who were silent sound the alarm now when they are on the chopping block or care about this harming white folk in more ways it hasn't historically.

This is not a debate or anything like it. It is demonstrably a thing that's happening so fight for trans rights, which are human rights, or you're complicit in the campaign of erasure.

Kids aren't, you know, any different than they ever have been. We're still the same species. Any behaviors manifested by children are a reaction to facts on the ground, to reality. Because they see it for what it is, not what it used to be, not what we pretend it still is.

I don't want young people giving up, but when nobody has any druthers to even remotely begin to solve any of those problems, what is their alternative?

You could go on and on. Mass incarcerations. Unaffordable healthy food. Cops are gangs. Politicians are either super corrupt or just hella corrupt. Nothing but doublespeak as far as the eye can see. Money equals morality; the rich get away with everything. When I ask you, is "too soon" to "give up"?

School shootings. Mass layoffs. Threatening trans people. Allowing the mass slaughter of entire peoples. Economic collapse. Environmental collapse. All jobs being made redundant. No safety nets for people, no UBI, trying to take away healthcare. And a system that historically blames it all on kids.

They can also, by the way, clearly see that the rich elites controlling everything are going to destroy the environment to the point where the planet might largely be uninhabitable. How many existential crises can you throw at kids before they just stop worrying and learn to love the bomb? Seriously

How could there not be knock on downstream effects of this? If you don't teach your kids, if you don't raise them to hope, if you don't give them a sense of their own destiny and possibility of the future, how else are they going to end up? Society did this to THEM, it's not a them problem.

"What kind of future are we leaving for our children" is no longer asked. Billionaires and their cronies have evolved into beings that can't think more than six months out. Nobody is building anything to last or endure. Kids today are raised in a world where humans are sacrificed eagerly for profit.

Kids are being told by tech bros, billionaires, the largest companies in the world, and likely their parents, that AI is the future. But it does your thinking for you, so how can you gain critical skills? How can you get callouses from failure and trial and error? The world doesn't make sense now.

The arts? Totally decimated, no hope there. All the computer jobs kids were told to chase? Also ending to automation and vibe coding. Why on earth would anyone go into education in this climate? The jobs of the future seem to be menial, to keep the computers that do our thinking clean and maintained

They're gonna get yelled at for it, but what the fuck are they doing wrong? They're being told there won't be space for them in the tomorrow. So why are they exerting effort for a future that won't exist. There are now problems we aren't addressing and they see it pretty clearly.

In the same way that millennials got yelled at for avocado toast and ruining industries like it was there fault they weren't given the resources to participate in them, we're going to see people yelling at students to reacting to a world where the oligarchy is flat out saying there'll be no future.

We are watching a concerted effort to completely destroy the future happen. It's like we then turn from that and look at students and wonder why they aren't behaving like they used to. I actually appreciate that thread, it's thoughtful. But clearly its a reaction to the existential everything.

The combination of fascism covid more fascism genocide capitulation to fascism and the clear goal of AI tech bros to eradicate the workforce and make all jobs and future goals irrelevant as we all slide into poverty while eleven rich people become gods is really doing a number on us.
