5 years ago today a massive debris flow raced down the Ronti Gad, Rishiganga, & Dhauliganga valleys in the Chamoli region of Uttarakhand, India, destroying two hydropower plants, and killing around 200 people. It was a horrific tragedy and my thoughts today are with the families of those killed 🧪⚒️

And no one is showing any interest in filling that gap, at least not in the Western world. People don't understand how much more research funding there was in the US compared to anywhere else...

I don't think people realize how catastrophic it is for any sort of science advances in the coming years. It will take a few years to be felt, but it won't take long before that black hole becomes extremely apparent on all aspects of society. And it won't be just in North America.
