There's no workaround bad content, even if it works, it's temporary, and you'll end up having to do tons of cleaning and pruning.
The best investment in content right now, is to do right from the get-go!

—> some have found improvements once they changed the URL name from sitemap to sitemap-index 🤷♀️ [told you can be a bug]
What to do if GSC isn’t fetching your sitemap?
—> check bing webmaster, your sitemap maybe working just fine, and it’s a GSC bug.
—> check if URLs in your sitemap are indexed and getting impressions, it also mean it’s a false positive on GSC (can happen)

This is useful if you're trying to see the performance of 2-3 URLs at the same time for example or compare them to another set...
