audiology grad student partner says shopping by brand won't help too much and your audiologist may be able to hook your partner up with a different *type* of hearing aid that might better help their situation i.e. custom mold style or different type of dome fit, etc.

this is exactly my intuition. the gap between a nontechnical prompter and a senior engineer prompting is massive.

Child’s Play, by Sam Kriss Tech’s new generation and the end of thinking

great writing. did a lot more, in entertaining prose, to paint a picture of how I feel about the tech industry than any manifesto or blog post.

as we continue to celebrate 40 years of Zelda i’d like to say that i sincerely love the existence of the official timeline. Nintendo got backed into a corner by forum nerds and said β€œoh you want a real timeline? here’s some shit that’s way more stupid than you expected”

Thinking of becoming one of those eccentric computer hermits who mostly use their own software and libraries, in a Frankensteinian amalgamation of tech no one else understands

i told people this in college and they thought i was being ridiculously undisciplined. maybe?

i guess the way i saw it was that it was easier to lose weight in a house full of veggies and not a house full of snacks. surely the same applies to focus

musk tweet: for a country to survive, there has to be a common culture

this is all racism, obviously, and multiculturalism is great, but i'll note that i'm pretty close to being a median american, and i can't think of too many other people in america with whom i share fewer cultural values that elon musk

i think lots of people underestimate how badly these β€œAI” companies want people to be unable to afford computers. they view personal computing as a roadblock to their desire for complete end-to-end centralization. the fact that their tech is putting hardware out of reach is not just a happy accident

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

While I love the idea of co-authors perhaps it's best to drop that in favor of appending one sentence about AI involvement to the commit message body.

if it's at a personal scale i find the most hope in finding faith (as in, belief regardless of evidence) that i can navigate unfamiliar situations

if it's at the scale of politics or global affairs... that nuance is hard to fit in the char limit

Gonna be using that phrasing from now on

I'm starting to feel like one of the biggest issues with generative AI is that it's outsourcing problem solving, knowledge, and creativity, as something we simply don't value anymore in humans

by design, even. this is the goal

I think about this a lot. Too often I've thought "well you sound mad but you say you're not so I will disregard" and have that bite me as much as "you sound mad but say you're not so I will take that seriously" and also have that bite me.

No winning, it would seem!
