Given that the Supreme Court has authorized racial profiling by immigration agents, is it any wonder that a city that’s heavily dependent upon its Latino community would rally around that community? There was no immigration related emergency here until ICE showed up.

Roughly 25% of Salem’s residents are Latino/Hispanic. That community has been heavily impacted by ICE’s presence in the area. The city simply affirmed its long-standing policy that local officials will not cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. They are not interfering with it.
