I mean, I wouldn't go anyway, even if I had the money (the photos make it look like a vast corporate creche, and I'd probably spend three days hiding behind the rented scenery), but the 'catering contractor clause' would be a deal-breaker

Unsolicited London Book Fair meeting request #8: "Hi Brian, I know you’re likely in the midst of final preparations for Londonβ€”" Er, no. A 2 sqm stand (for an independent publisher) costs approximately Β£900 (not including furniture, lights, electricity). You can't even bring your own sandwiches.

When I lost interest in narrative, I lost the stories of my own life, I couldn’t fill the holes in the plot. I started to tell the stories again, piecing them together from what others had told me, their remembering was my remembering. The telling is all.

I just enjoyed finishing listening in bed this morning to Brian Lewis’ & Chris Jones’ podcast discussion here. How cities and ourselves come and go in walking, writing & remembering. β€˜Writing the moment, then it’s gone’ without resolution. #poetrysheffield #writingsheffield

The same text has appeared in Sheffield, too (fortunately, it's just a fussily designed bill poster, and will be gone in a few weeks)

Think Positive This is how it will be in a year, he says – Nina Simone’sΒ Feeling GoodΒ in his head; The big swing band bursting in like God Or a new pay-scale. Β Think positive, he says. The on-time train advances …

Thinking a thing doesn’t make it so,
or wanting it. He can see it clearly now.
He’ll walk right in to chair the meeting
& the music, the swift, the sun – whatever –
none of it will touch on the agenda.

landfall always rolls around again like

If AI is an all-encompassing movement to rationalise and dehumanise life, and poetry necessarily asserts the human and the beyond-rational, then poetry is the only viable response to the philosophical implications of AI

Obviously I would say this because I'm a poet, but y'know... this is our moment
