Like holding a young child on a wall to see the sea
for the first time, at dawn, the world’s thought-task,
vast, and simple, and irreversible.

When I lost interest in narrative, I lost the stories of my own life, I couldn’t fill the holes in the plot. I started to tell the stories again, piecing them together from what others had told me, their remembering was my remembering. The telling is all.

I just enjoyed finishing listening in bed this morning to Brian Lewis’ & Chris Jones’ podcast discussion here. How cities and ourselves come and go in walking, writing & remembering. β€˜Writing the moment, then it’s gone’ without resolution. #poetrysheffield #writingsheffield

The same text has appeared in Sheffield, too (fortunately, it's just a fussily designed bill poster, and will be gone in a few weeks)

Think Positive This is how it will be in a year, he says – Nina Simone’sΒ Feeling GoodΒ in his head; The big swing band bursting in like God Or a new pay-scale. Β Think positive, he says. The on-time train advances …

Thinking a thing doesn’t make it so,
or wanting it. He can see it clearly now.
He’ll walk right in to chair the meeting
& the music, the swift, the sun – whatever –
none of it will touch on the agenda.

landfall always rolls around again like

I stop to watch the river’s dull pewter
slow-shimmy the strait, grinding stone,
cutting shingle.

If AI is an all-encompassing movement to rationalise and dehumanise life, and poetry necessarily asserts the human and the beyond-rational, then poetry is the only viable response to the philosophical implications of AI

Obviously I would say this because I'm a poet, but y'know... this is our moment

Loitering without intent: how taking aimless walks can create community and help you feel part of a city Walking together can be a powerful way to feel a sense of belonging in our environment.

"Opening up, sharing stories, making, holding, extending space walking together... is the opposite of planting a flag + claiming dominance" doi.org/10.64628/AB....

'To speak of class, if we speak of it, is to qualify it, at times defensively, at others apologetically, because class is never as simple as class. You can't think with it for long before it starts to slip. You can't confer it on yourself. You can't confer it on others.'
