the show gets a lot of play out of this. the twin towers loom over the opening episode, all the clubs and restaurants that it depicts jfk jr at closed under ignoble circumstances, etc. bessette's job is like something out of a fantasy.

good piece. jfk jr. has become a very strange symbol of the 1990s or, at least, a particularly frictionless, luxurious version of the 1990s.

the world he inhabited ceased to be the benchmark for culture shortly after his death. it ceased to be entirely amid the crises of the 2000s.

im sorry to inform you that jfk jr and carolyn absolutely snorted cocaine off toilet seats. the heavy drug use was a major toll on their relationship toward the end of their lives.

one of my favorite characters that i've made for a one-shot campaign was a golem rogue named "P.F." who was constructed out of thousands of old, cheap mass-market paperbacks and spoke and acted exclusively in cliches from detective and crime novels

04.03.2026 18:47 β€” πŸ‘ 43    πŸ” 4    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 1

he also seems very hard to get in touch with outside of campaign-specific events. like, i think i have seen a lot of nyc house members in my day to day. schumer puts a lot of effort into appearing at random community events. i've literally never seen goldman irl except at the stonewall flag raising

won his seat in a very divided primary. in the last election, he had a no-name opponent who got a shockingly high number of votes. lander is obviously very well-liked and respected in the brooklyn part of his district.

obv he has a ton of money but my own amateur opinion: goldman is extremely fucked.

very out of step with the district. bad presence in the district. terrible constituent services (he moved his district office to a remote location after it kept getting protested and left garbage outside for months)

lot of people on this site and twitter that i enjoy talking to and whose thoughts i respect but im always reluctant to reach out for fear of being a burden and/or assuming that friendly public interactions mean they want me prattling endlessly in their DMs

more seriously, there's a long history of tv and film impacting both how politicians see the world and style themselves (depictions of the WH Situation Room in media inspired upgrades to make it look sleeker, more cinematic for press photos). i don't know why video games would be different.

hello welcome to my 1930s heated rivalry AU. it's just the 1939 film "ninotchka" but gay.

hours later, he returns to his office, soaked to the bone, blood on his shirt. he begins rummaging through his files, only to stop. he tilts his head, "you can come out now."

i slink from the shadows, a small pistol in my hand pointed right at his guts. "well done, detective."

i just want a big man in a trenchcoat and a hat to grab me by the wrists in the rain and ask me, almost shouting, if i told anyone about our meeting and then the lights from an approaching car flash our shadows against a brick wall and he sprints away down an aalley as i fall to my knees and weep

kids nowadays never say, "now that's a fine how do you do" or "here's a couplah smackeroonies for your trouble, hot stuff" and i think that says a lot about society today

we're hem and haw about how people in the past read more sophisticated texts but, just speaking from my own personal reading, i can tell you that what what a lot of politicians were reading during the 60s and 70s for leisure was boys' adventure books, very generic war narratives, and the like

i don't really like to call people out but a lot of online discourse on reading and literacy seems motivated primarily by a desire to make the original poster seem morally and intellectually superior than their peers

Hey, remember how we let a nazi near-trillionaire annihilate the US state capacity? I know it was a whole year ago, but it turns out that this has consequences beyond "murdering 14 million people by ending USAID" (which apparently no one cared about).
