I had two grandfathers and wanted to indicated which one I was talking about. If you looked at the entire thread, you might have noticed that I also posted about my mother's father.

My mother’s father was an engineer at General Electric and worked on some sort of classified government project that he wasn’t allowed to tell his family about.

My dad’s father was a lawyer & his crowning achievement was being part of France’s legal team in their lawsuit against AMOCO for the AMOCO Cadiz oil spill. He had a thank-you note from France on his fridge for many years.

I liked that, as an epistolary novel, you would sometimes get someone writing to a new character saying, "So, to bring you up to speed, here's all of the correspondence from the first part of the book." It's like when Kermit and Fozzy give a copy of the script to the Electric Mayhem.

That’s cool, but I should probably warn you that my interest might start to flag after the first 13,000-15,000 reasons.

When my mom got sick, she asked me to learn this song for her friend Bozzie, to thank him for all of his support during her illness. It's touching to hear what it meant to both Carole King and James Taylor.

Anyway, we made various adjustments to the sign to make it more attention-getting, which helped a little, but ultimately management told us to take it down, as they worried users might be insulted by the idea that they would need the stapler's location spelled out like that. (5/5)

I kind of struggled with understanding this at the time, but really, it makes sense: if you're looking for a stapler, and it's not there, then you'll ask where it is, not look to see what's there in its place. It's not like I haven't done something like that a million times. (4/5)

We would say "The stapler is behind you," and most people would nod, turn around, and use the stapler. But like 10-20% of people would blink, look down at the sign again, and recognize that the answer was in front of them the whole time. (3/5)

We put a sign on top of the hard drive saying "The stapler is behind you," which resulted in a parade of people coming in, looking at the sign, looking back at the help desk staffer, and asking where the stapler was. (2/5)

I worked in a help desk once where there was a stapler people could borrow which was kept on top of the external hard drive of a computer. Eventually we moved it to a table on the wall facing the desk, to keep people from beating the hell out of the hard drive. (1/5)
