A new report released by @oilchange.bsky.social, @iisd.org and @foeus.bsky.social reveals that an international alliance to shift public finance away from fossil fuels is working.

Why? International public finance for #FossilFuels was slashed by up to 78% in 2024 ✅

Text that reads, “Nothing even comes close” to fossil fuel industry subsidies, Whitehouse told ExxonKnews in a statement. “As the corrupt Trump Administration destroys affordable, clean energy, it’s shoveling even more subsidies at the failing coal sector. That’s taxpayer money propping up an industry that turns around and charges those same taxpayers higher energy prices.”

-Days after publicly denying the existence of fossil fuel subsidies, Trump's top energy official, former fracking exec. Chris Wright, awarded $625M in new subsidies to coal. Oh, and he ordered Dept. of Energy staff to stop using the word "subsidies" to try to pull the wool over the public's eyes.

Some highlights from the piece:
-Fossil fuel subsidies have risen to new highs under the Trump admin. Industry will now get over $4B in new subsidies every year, on top of the $35B they were already set to receive.

Last week, the U.S. Energy Secretary falsely claimed “there are not oil and gas subsidies.” 🙄

In reality, "nothing even comes close” to fossil fuel subsidies, @whitehouse.senate.gov told @emdashsanders.bsky.social.

A new @oilchange.bsky.social report calculated them to be $34.8 billion annually.

Oil Change Response to Anticipated Government Shutdown - Oil Change International Ahead of a U.S. government shutdown, Collin Rees said: “Trump and Republicans are showing they work for billionaires and fossil fuel CEOs, not working people.”

As Trump + the GOP shut down the gov't to avoid funding healthcare for working families, a reminder of what they ARE willing to fund:

💸$35B in annual handouts to fossil fuel companies
💸$625M in new giveaways to coal

The Trump admin is doing this because they care more about providing a steady stream of profits to Trump's fossil fuel donors than providing clean, affordable energy to working people.

I'm writing today to share some (rare) good climate news!

New research released today by @energy.iisd.org @oilchange.bsky.social @foeus.bsky.social shows that members of the Clean Energy Transition Partnership have cut their international public finance for fossil fuels by up to 78%.

CETP members should:
💪 Strengthen fossil finance restrictions
🤝 Agree a USD 42 billion annual collective clean energy finance target by 2026
✅ Deliver public clean energy finance on fair terms
❌ End subsidies and approvals for new domestic oil and gas projects

30.09.2025 08:41 — 👍 7    🔁 2    💬 0    📌 0

While the CETP has driven a historic reduction in fossil financing, progress on clean energy finance is far slower. Less than 1/5 of the funds shifted from fossil fuels were redirected to clean energy, and the clean energy finance isn’t reaching countries who need it most.

There's still work to do. Some countries (Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and the U.S, before it left the CETP) —approved USD 10.9 billion in fossil fuel finance in 2023-2024, in violation of the commitment.

This shows that CETP is working - an example of international action to tackle fossil finance!
