A former student just texted me about a new book coming out in the series he started in my class. We are so back, baby!

Today is officially the last day of summer in my world. It was a good one, but I love fall—the structured weeks, my students, football, cooler temps.

(We don’t start until 8/25 but 60% of my job is faculty development so I have to lead workshops all week, which is harder than teaching.)

I can’t imagine how hard this is. Just know that I see the other side, and it’s so awesome to watch them sprout their little wings and grow. He’s gonna be so great.

The black dog in our house has to be made to come inside when it’s hot. I do not get it

The pets are living their best lives. Beans is comatose on the bed downstairs and Frank is begging to chase a ball even tho I told him it’s too hot.

Nice! I don’t mind a gin martini—love Hendricks and Beefeater—but I’m a vodka girl at heart. My daily driver is a dirty ketel one martini.

In other news, I sent my "welcome to class!" emails at 9 am this morning. Our classes don't start until 8/25, and one of my English ed students has already sent me her e-Writer's Notebook for class. English teachers all suffer from the same compulsions 😂

One of my colleagues (also in English Education, he studies linguistic diversity) said to me earlier this summer that, in the age of AI, perhaps all writing is really just rewriting and I can't stop thinking about it. I think it's true and, honestly, my favorite part is rewriting, so I'm on board.

My first grey hair came the semester my college students told me they weren't born when 9/11 happened. It's been all downhill from there.

Not SUPER excited to go into a new school year after having done some more work with ChatGPT and seeing how much better it is at analyzing multimodal texts than last year. Faculty are already unhinged about AI's existence. 😭
