For sure, patience is rewarded and careless play is punished in nethack. Most times i did i say "why did i do that!?".

Nethack is definitely a cruel mistress though.

Don't forget you can lay eggs when polymorphed into a dragon or something (if you play as female). Nice little bonus.

Nethack and Dwarf Fortress will sustain you indefinitely. :)

Yeah the chameleons can be a huge problem in the rogue quest. Usually at least one turns into a purple L before you find them all. Ring of protection from shape changers is great here if you have one. Otherwise... be ready with magic resistance at least.

Well the healer quest is full of dragons, that can be a shock when you get there.

Same as you do in nethack, with vi keys.

Grats on the ascension! You sure made it a little more fun for yourself by teleporting away the amulet lol. As for conflict, i never bother to remove it before going into astral, the extra hostile angels hardly matter, and the pet you you get is usually dead in moments.

Nethack is only playable in ascii for me. I love the look of some of the tilesets but i am just unable to play a full game with them.

In nethack you don't know how much anything weighs, or how much you can carry. You just have to guess. Pickaxe seems heavy let me drop it. I love it.

Nethack (free) and New Vegas (close to free when on sale) are absolute classics.

I love that early game nethack can be more of a survival-horror game. Anything can randomly kill you, and every resource you have is precious.

-1 luck doesn't sound like a lot, but it really is in the early game!

There is kind of a general "use" action in nethack too, "a" apply, but so many things have different interactions, z to zap a wand, but a to apply it, which breaks it.

You may need to sacrifice higher difficulty monsters to appease your deity.
