Your daily reminder that #Derry & West of the Bann have suffered blatant discrimination when it comes to rail timetabling for the last 7yrs (see below), & Minister Liz Kimmins is refusing to allocate the relatively paltry £1m needed to finally bring this injustice to an end🤷♂️ @deptinfra.bsky.social

With 10's of thousands of people frm #Donegal descending upon Dublin today for #AllIrelandFootballFinal, it's important to acknowledge the complete absence of suitable public transport from the county to get them there. It's high time that Donegal got its railway back again 🟢🟡👍 #LetterkennyDerryRail

Today marks 75th anniversary of #Limavady losing its railway. A century of connectivity erased in an instance. Limavady would be the easiest, quickest & cheapest rail reopening on the island - & we're campaigning to see it happen👍 Hear us speak at #Stendhal this Sunday ('Stage the Change' @ 3:45pm)

An analysis of demand for rail in NI 2023-24. Key points:
- 26.5m journeys (+26% vs PY)
- Demand still recovering aftr Covid (-1.3% vs pre-pandemic).
- Big variance in regional performance vs pre-Covid. Derry booming, Belfast struggling.
- WFH changing travel pattrns?
Great to see public transport usage continuing to grow across NI 👍 Important to note, however, that the simple act of ending timetable discrimination against the 3 rail stations West of the Bann would add a further approx 250,000 more journeys to the rail network

** LINE CLOSURE OVER EASTER **
The section of Derry-Belfast line between Antrim & Coleraine will be closed Good Friday (18th April) & Easter Saturday (19th) for essential engineering works.
Trains will run between Derry & Coleraine as normal, with bus substitutions onwards from Coleraine to Antrim.
We had a very constructiv meeting with NI Infrastructur Minister Liz Kimmins today at Stormont. Items discussd=
1) Huge growth in Derry rail demand
2) Timetable discrimination against West of Bann
3) Reopening Lettrkenny-Derry-Portadwn
4) Phase 3 track works.
We're very grateful to Liz for her time
** RAIL LINE CLOSED THIS WEEKEND **
A reminder that the Derry-Belfast rail line is closed on Sat 29th & Sun 30th March for engineering works. Details on bus replacement services are below.
A great article in the Donegal News this week about the huge potential rail tourism has for #Donegal. Fantastic to see Railtours Ireland raising this issue publicly 👏🏻 Do you agree that the county's tourism would be significantly enhanced by the return of rail?

** MEETING WITH DONEGAL TDs - Tues 11th March 2025 **
We'd an extremely helpful meeting yesterday with #Donegal TDs @pearsedoherty.bsky.social & @padraigmacl.bsky.social about bringing rail back to Letterkenny & Donegal. We're very grateful for their time & engagement with us on this important issue
Have you seen our banners near the bus station in #Letterkenny? 🙂 If you'd like to help us install more around #Donegal, please consider donating here = intothewest.org/donate.
Each banner costs £50, but any donation will be used to help push the message that Donegal Needs Rail !
#DonegalNeedsRail
Our campaign to re-open the #Derry-Portadown rail line will be on UTV Live in a few minutes 👍🏻

On this day 60 years ago #Tyrone & #Donegal lost their rail, & #Derry/ the entire NorthWest of Ireland lost their direct rail routes to Dublin & Belfast. It was the St.Valentine's Day Massacre of rail in West Ulster. This short video helps explain what was lost =

Great to see Councillors in #Donegal support a motion last week calling on County Council to play lead role in securing feasibility study into restoring Letterkenny-Derry rail, & to organise deputation to the new Dublin gov. Our thnx to Councillor Declan Meehan for bringing the topic before council👍
03.02.2025 16:12 — 👍 2 🔁 1 💬 0 📌 0Your map also portrays NI's second city as if it's an unimportant spur off of Coleraine, which is a quarter of its size. Merely on a par with Portrush & it'spopulation of 6,000. You'll find that this sort of stuff does not go down at all well in the North-West.
23.01.2025 21:49 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Sorry - don't buy that at all. As the below map shows, it is possible to portray the network in a geographically accurate way. If they can do it with the vast & intricate rail map of Britain, evn with London's spaghetti soup of lines, thn it can be done for NI's basic system & it's handful of lines👍🏻
