I loathe the perspective that storytelling needs to spoonfeed positive morality to the audience for fear that idiots might think insider trading or underground fight clubs are a “good thing.”

I’d argue art that never challenges is what creates ignorant audiences.

I genuinely despair for people trying to create movies, books and TV shows for an audience that needs to be told “THIS IS THE BAD GUY AND HE HAS ZERO REDEEMING FEATURES”.

I am just now catching up on the fact that the FDA was demanding Uniqure do sham brain surgeries (from what I can tell, comprising simulated burr holes and 10-12 hours of anesthesia) in their placebo arm for their Huntington's therapeutic, and I'm absolutely floored that this was a serious demand.

I don’t think LLMs would take off without this kind of userbase, because they’re the ones talking to ChatGPT and Grok all day every day because they think they’re reaching Jesus levels of insight. This is why the technology gets called a scam, because the industry is definitely scamming these people

So a lot of the hype around LLMs and a lot of the userbase just fundamentally misunderstands what the technology is and what it’s capable of, instead treating it like a mythical supernatural or religious being. The industry openly encourages this delusion for profit

The thing is, a lot of LLM users actually think it’s capable of God-like intelligence, and that’s clear from the ways they interact with it publicly

They fund it in Gaza. They're doing it to Venezuelan fisherman. They're doing it in Iran. They're doing it in the streets and in concentration camps to immigrants in the US. They've done it to US citizen protestors on the streets in Minnesota.

There are no limits to what they are capable of.

The difference is really about whose needs we consider normal and whose needs we consider extra.

I say it a lot but TBH the entire history of human technology is about accessibility. It's a lot easier and more effective to stick a post in the ground with a hammer than it is with a fist. It's easier to carry water in a jar than in cupped hands.
