A frog perched on a green plant stem faces the camera. The frog is a brilliant orangeish red in color, on body and limbs, with many small dark spots. The eyes are very large and protruding; the irises are white, rimmed with a light blue. The black pupils are horizontally elliptical, and there is a thin dark line running vertically through the entire eye. The frog is a calling male, and its vocal sac is extended downward below the face. The sac is slightly translucent and the red of the frog's body can be seen through the sac.

I was lucky enough to see many Bright-eyed Frogs (Boophis) during my visit. A male Pyrrhus Bright-eyed Frog (Boophis pyrrhus) calling along the roadside at night, near Andasibe, eastern Madagascar. #herps #NaturePhotography 🌿

Major features here are the Heart Nebula and Fish Head Nebula.

Deep red: sulfur
Red-orange: hydrogen-alpha
Blue: oxygen + hydrogen-beta
