I actually disagree but DO know where you're coming from! A lot of the characters are interesting and unique, but just don't have the loops ironed out (usually from OTGs that are too easy to combo off of). Plus the chars mostly get shown off by ppl optimizing damage, not showing movelist.

Interestingly, modded umvc3 character fall into this trap too! It's really odd and speaks to the devs on that game really digging into the game before launch and looking to remove that from the game, because no way did they just accidentally avoid the loop problem.
