Freddie Mercury took Tim Staffell’s place as singer in Smile and he took his singing style too.
Great song this.

‘There is a portrait of my mother, at nineteen,
With the black spaniel, standing by the garden seat,
The dainty head held high against the painted green
And throwing out the youngest smile, shy, but half haughty and half sweet.’

Off to see The Secret Agent at #BFI today.
I’ve read comparisons to The Passenger and, as Antonioni is a favourite, I’m looking forward to it.

Roger looking very Club Tropicana.
Pete, ‘just popping down the betting office’ look.

I didn’t know they did it! Doesn’t sound like their kind of thing

The Cars - live 1978
Wish I'd seen them in the day

heh heh
I'd love to have seen the Cars in the 70s. Dunno if they played the Uk
The Cars is a great album. I don't think their brand of new wave / power pop was that popular in the UK at the time. Maybe I'm wrong. But they chuck a bit of everything in the mix and I like the vocals.

Does AI ever say a film has bad reviews? It seems to politely use the phrase ‘mixed reviews’ for films that have been judged dog shit.

So is this were Sparks and H17 took their names too?

The more I've seen Groundhog Day, the more I have understood how much Andie MacDowell's acting is key to it. She has strength and lightness as an actor; conviction in everything she does. A beautiful performance.

My initial thought is marginal convenience aside, there's not enough wine in a can.
But also...
Brilliant! Starts great and gets even better!

04.03.2026 17:13 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Aside from the wine in a can business, the name and the fact that it is some sort of club is not great. But I think it’s American - a Ross Johnson product!

Was it any good? Strong?
I could never never drink cider or snakebites without getting very sick after 1 or 2, behaving badly and puking.
I’d be interested to get your feedback on French Kiss.

Not signing up then? I came across this as I’m re-reading Barbarians at the Gate. It was a Ross Johnson idea!
It’s a great book.
Johnson used to thank people for their BGO in meetings. They had to find out what it stood for. Blinding glimpse of the obvious.
Good grief.
