I have no reason to, you haven't offended me in any manner. So far at least!
20.12.2025 22:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Agree to disagree then. Again, I'm perfectly aware I'm not changing anyone's mind here. I'm just letting others know my thoughts. You are of course, entitled to yours as well.
20.12.2025 21:59 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0And I stated why I see the argument as wrong, and disingenuous. That is only true, when considering ALL use of AI. At a individual level, which I am, unless it's unclear, it is no more impactful, than gaming with a high end PC.
20.12.2025 21:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Again, maybe read the entire chain, instead of just the one message, for proper context.
20.12.2025 21:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Which you also conveniently quoted out of context.
20.12.2025 21:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0
Wrong. I haven't showered today.
That aside. Since you quoted the last message of a long chain here, I do want to add the context here, that I'm still committed to not using visual and audio gen in my work, for the foreseeable future.
I also want to add, that I don't expect anyone here to share my values, or agree with me on this matter. I'm simply stating how I see things. I'm not trying to make excuses, nor am I trying to apologize for the use. This is how I see it. I do not see all use of GenAI as wrong, for me, it depends.
20.12.2025 21:28 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1Anyway, I hope that helps illustrate my thoughts on AI a bit to you. And I want to clarify, that I'm committed to my decision not to use Audio or Visual AI in any form in my work, for the foreseeable future. I won't say never, since I can't know what the world is like in a couple years.
20.12.2025 21:28 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0You didn't specify art theft, but I assume you included that in "creatively destructive". I used Elevenlabs' SFX model for these. It is, according to them, trained on licensed data from shutterstock. Could they be lying? I don't know. There is no proof of that, to my knowledge at least.
20.12.2025 21:28 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0What I'm trying to get at here, is that if I were to consider the environmental impact, I would need to stop creating in 3D entirely, as the environmental impact of that, is much greater than anything I could ever get out of AI, on an individual level. And quit gaming honestly.
20.12.2025 21:28 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This is of course just considering inference, not model training. But for training too, you also need to consider how much use a model gets during its lifespan. When you divide it amongst all the gens, and users, it again becomes marginal, assuming it's a useful model of course.
20.12.2025 21:28 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0But I find that way of looking at things a bit disingenuous, when in reality the impact of these samples generated itself, is less than the impact of a couple frames from this animation, or just a few minutes of high end gaming.
20.12.2025 21:28 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0As for environmental impact. While it's true that Data Centers can have a massive enviro impact, depending on where they're built, it's not that black & white. First, data Centers do a lot more than just AI. Yes AI is a big contributor. The env impact from AI as a whole IS huge, I'm not denying that
20.12.2025 21:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 1In that same vein, it would be very hard for me to ever consider using AI in animation/acting or direction, since those are my main creative input. Any use on those, would eat at my conscience. "I did not create this". This is also why I place a lot of importance, on having my own character models.
20.12.2025 21:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I don't really see it as creatively destructive, since I'm not putting in my own creative input, whether I use AI, or a sample from a premade pack. My creative input is in the visuals and mixing of the audio, it's never in the samples, AI or not.
20.12.2025 21:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Of course, it is not a major issue, which is why I was willing to back down. I can still get "good enough" while, hopefully, allowing me to better meet the expectations the community has on me. This of course does not mean I agree on everyone's stance here. It is a compromise, I won't deny that.
20.12.2025 21:28 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0But if those packs don't have a sample I ended up wanting to use, that's where I see AI as useful. It meant I could gen something that I wanted, instead of needing to settle with what was available. It's not realistic for me to have a foley artist on call, that I can just ask for a sample mid mixing
20.12.2025 21:28 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I can't see it ever being efficient to have someone else do it for me, the process of hiring and directing would be more taxing than just doing it myself, and more prone to cause delays. As for foley: I honestly can't see anything but pre-commissioned packs being viable here scheduling wise.
20.12.2025 21:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I do audio while waiting for renders. I can do audio mixing at a level I personally consider "good enough", as in it satisfies my needs for what I'd expect from audio in a video, while I'm sure a professional would have much to criticize.
20.12.2025 21:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Just to clarify, I definitely did not mean to imply that foley work is not worthwhile. This is from an animator's perspective. I can animate at best 1 minute per month, if I want to avoid burnout. It takes me roughly 4 hours to do audio for that 1 minute, whether I use AI or not.
20.12.2025 21:28 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Right. You do realize this type of use is pretty much everywhere? Do you also send insulting letters to your local grocery store, or this platform for that matter? Or is it just to other artists, who don't conform to your exact values and beliefs on this matter?
20.12.2025 09:16 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
My words simply mean: I'm *not* going to stop using it as an assistant for non-visual/audio work in my work, e.g. for coding/scripting/troubleshooting/proofreading help in my work.
There's no further meaning with my phrasing. It's *not* a loophole I've left for myself to continue using audiogen.
A fanart of Clara, a character from @eskoz.bsky.social⬠:) Since it's Clara there can be a couple of possible scenarios here, it's left to the viewer's imagination what happens next ;D
19.12.2025 22:55 β π 361 π 57 π¬ 7 π 0As for the rest, I don't discuss my dealings with outsiders. Period. It would be a breach of their privacy.
18.12.2025 12:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I don't understand what you're trying to ask in your final sentence. I've clearly stated that audio gen was used in the release version I posted a couple days ago. It's clearly stated, along with the release post. Also, there is no if, I won't be using any audio/visual gen in future content.
18.12.2025 12:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Again, I understand others see things differently, and I respect that. To clarify, I do not agree with the position that any AI use is harmful, no matter what.
18.12.2025 11:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I stepped away from it because I value community expectations. Presenting your POV on AI impact as an undisputed settled fact, doesn't make it so, even if people here agree. I can respect your values, but implying I deliberately chose to harm others for convenience is false and, frankly, offensive.
18.12.2025 11:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I usually do audio when rendering footage. Rendering is basically down time, Audio is one of the few things I can do while rendering is in progress, so even for a longer project, there's honestly not much need to outsource. For DC, I had months to do the audio, since it took around 4m to render.
17.12.2025 22:25 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The only situation I might consider hiring someone to handle audio in my place, is if I did another longer project like devil's cookie, where Audio takes multiple days to finish. But just for less than a days work, hiring is just inefficient.
