I work with kids on the spectrum everyday. They need stability & understanding. However, they also need consequences. Using their condition as an excuse as opposed to context hinders their ability to regulate their emotions appropriately. It also leads to poor behavior due to lack of repercussions.

Even if it’s not a mental health condition, we shouldn’t assume, she’s acting out for a reason. There’s a need that’s unmet. Additionally, with mental health conditions, structure & discipline is still necessary. Children need stability to feel safe & logical consequences when acting out
