Ivan Lupi

The audience is invited to take active part in the piece by joining it’s peculiar setup and supporting the artist by playing triangles hanging from the ceiling.

Lupi repeatedly plays a triangle instrument for 6 days each day for 6 hours straight in order to reach 100.000 strikes and beyond.

An intimate yet powerful act of mourning dedicated to each one of the estimated 100.000 homosexuals who have been arrested, abused and killed during the Holocaust.

Grunts and clanging plates form a rhythm I can’t join. I occupy space but never belong, a perpetual visitor in a club whose membership requires fluency in physical excellence I have yet to achieve.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

The unspoken codes of which weights to claim, where to stand, how long to rest, remain foreign languages.

The gym, a cathedral of inadequacy, where mirrors reinforce my failures and chrome equipment feels like monuments to what I am not.
