02.12.2025 02:25 β π 65 π 7 π¬ 1 π 1Mark Carneyβs overall economic approach has been backward-looking: an emphasis on natural resource extraction and reliance on low-tax, market-led, small-government economic ideology that was stale in 2008, and is definitely not suited to a world of geostrategic competition.
16.11.2025 12:16 β π 40 π 11 π¬ 2 π 2You'll ignore this, but every time you tweet angrily about crap like that Nuzzi piece you're confirming NYT editors' intuitions/incentivizing more of it. The entire intellectual/journo model here is, "Does this person get people angry? Yes? OK they're provocative/get talked about. Write about her."
14.11.2025 17:58 β π 1581 π 244 π¬ 117 π 57Todayβs artist without a (known) birthday: Alejandro Loarte, from Toledo. Painter of still lifes. And sometimes other things. Here with marvelous not-quite-symmetry.
18.09.2025 11:26 β π 152 π 12 π¬ 2 π 0Itβs starting to become clear to more people that Carneyβs Plan A amounts to an attempt to implement traditional Conservative policies when whatβs called for is radically different policies. Itβs currently unclear whether Carney can switch gears. The tell will be whether he abandons austerity.
10.08.2025 14:04 β π 16 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0Lucas van Leyden, died (alas!) OTD 1533. Painted the first real Dutch genre scenes! They are all about chance, knowledge, and prediction, as in this Game of Cards. Very bourgeois to worry about money & the future.

02.07.2025 07:41 β π 81 π 10 π¬ 3 π 0Infanta Margarita Teresa without all the fuss, painted by Diego Velazquez. And three years later, in blue, with some A+ accessories. Today is Velazquez's day.

The same cattle further on the lane, including Carol at the rear, who is already having misgivings and missing home.
People in cities think nothing dramatic ever happens in villages but thatβs not true. In our village the summer before last the cattle pushed over a fence and escaped from John and Ritaβs field and lots of people still talk about it to this day and some of those people donβt even live in the village

What an amazing experience! Trying to explain Darger is impossible, so seeing the works in person is key. Thanks for sharing your writing!

Researchers at The Jackson Laboratory and UConn Health have successfully discovered a molecular switch that can actually SHUT DOWN cancer growth signals and STOP tumor growth at the RNA LEVEL. 23.03.2025 16:00 β π 5289 π 1682 π¬ 101 π 127The Republicans would like to have some freedom from Trump, but they wonβt until we bring him down in popularity. That happened with Bush in 2005. It happened with Trump in 2017. When it happens, I am hopeful that our Republican colleagues will resume working with us. And I talk to them. One of the places is in the gym. When youβre on that bike in your shorts, panting away next to a Republican, a lot of the inhibitions come off.
A lot of delusion happening in that Schumer NYT interview, but this gets to the heart of it: he believes his Republican colleagues will come around and everything will be ok. Absolutely delusional.

This is horrible to post, but I may as well post it. We are essentially shutting down research operations in my group, which is focused on treatments for pediatric brain cancer. Iβm a well funded investigator, and thereβs no choice. Science canβt function without the stability of NIH
