the cost of producing the foundational models are going down though - eventually once AI use becomes ambiguous the cost will be ineligible ...but yeah - time will tell. Here I have more hope in that the higher demand on energy creates innovation around nuclear and renewable sources.

thats fine - but that was NOT what the root of this thread was about. At least I didn't see any mention about local vs remote service used. I saw "Any use of generative AI used to write content is wrong" which is bad stance imo.

I think you are talking about the challenges of using AI based agent automations - where as original was about using generative AI to generate text. Those are related but slightly different.

Hence stating that its "lesser good to use AI" for solving problems is not helpful and will just help feed into encouraging people to not learn about the power and limits of AI - and if they don't the current industry trend will win.

04.08.2025 08:10 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I'm not saying the industry is doing the right thing - I don't - the industry puts waaay too much trust in AI in its current implementation will replace people - I'm saying that it is useful to augment people; just like any tech before it.

04.08.2025 08:08 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Exactly because it's non deterministic it needs to be used responsibly - and I'm not sure if you actually tried use it it but for me it's awesome to unblock my work. I don't use it blindly but it's massively useful if used properly. I don't think that should be considered any worse than a calculator

03.08.2025 21:38 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Guns need to be used responsibly too.

03.08.2025 21:34 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

That's if you use it blindly and without being responsible about its usage. Same if you blindly out in numbers to a calculator and expect the result being fine without context/understanding.
And cad does draw for you - before you had to do all that by hand and had less time to focus on higher tasks

03.08.2025 21:18 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Pretty sure same was said about use of calculators, computers, typewriters, CAD, automobiles etc. All of these allowed less fortunate to participate in skillfull activities and those fortunate hated it. We shouldn't be alienating usage of AI; but educate on how to use it responsibly.

spend waaay too long on realizing that for the new maven central deploy the "token" you generate is not the token you use...there are *two* steps to do.

Step 1 is generate username and password
Step 2 is the *actual* token

Exiting the Red Hat shell and going into the Big Blue.

Tomorrow, most of Red Hat Middleware moves to IBM - hundreds of us with the same job, mission, and passion, just with a different badge.

Yeah, if we don't improve that I fear the usage stats would be used as evidence for a flat earth or at least the white ice wall exist :)

JBang Usage jbang is a tool that makes it easy to get started with java and enable experimentation and exploration without the traditional overhead and ceromony with traditional java tools

Have some real-world anonymized clean data from JBang’s version checks (jbang.dev/usage).

Looking for anyone who loves data viz, charts, or microsites and wants to contribute to open source!

DM me or comment if you’d like a dataset to play with.

not following. You are making the same point - can't allow unlimited access. Just like personal assistant is limited in access or expected to not share/sell the data.

Basically middleware Will be what needs expanding to enable safe Agentic execution.

100% correct - it's a very slippery slope but it's no different than how does a C suite admin get access to your calendar/email and expenses?

I expect on the fly limited virtual credit card be a thing.

Time limited access keys

Finer grained rbac

Etc

I can give a hint that it's name has no letters shared with jshell. Nor does it description has a word with jshell in it.
