Dems just GOT a clean CR, the ORIGINAL demand. Rate hikes were going into effect whether gov't was open or closed. Poor people can eat, workers can get paid, and we still have a chance at reducing the ACA rate hikes. That's nothing to be angry about. And Johnson has to seat Grijalva. Boom!

the longer the government stayed shut down, the more responsibility people would lay on Democrats...
an off ramp right after everyone got their notices of an ACA increase was the right time, and Trump going to court to secure the right to starve children was a cherry on top

Supreme Court declines to hear case on constitutionality of same-sex marriage The Supreme Court on Monday morning turned down a request from Kim Davis, a former county clerk in Kentucky, to reconsider its 2015 decision recognizing a constitutional right to same-sex […]

The Supreme Court rejects petition from Kim Davis to reconsider its 2015 ruling that legalized same-sex marriage, effectively preserving Obergefell for a long time to come. Marriage equality is safe.

The subsidies have already lapsed. The GOP wasn't going to blink so do we want no healthcare, no food and 100000s of people homeless from no paychecks? Just asking. We can do this all again in Jan. It's not like this is the last time we can shut down the government ffs.

10.11.2025 14:39 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

So if the GOP weren't going to vote for it anyway why should we starve millions of Americans and let millions lose their homes due to lack of paycheck? ICE is still being paid etc. I am wondering what all the "keep it closed" ppl had in mind if the GOP refused to do shit anyway?

A much more positive story, and which testifies to the extraordinary social value of adventure playgrounds:

I've seen most of the rage against Democrats focus mainly on Schumer as if he did this. It's clear that this is just anger that Democrats don't have an instant "fix this" button and people are taking it out on Schumer. He's not perfect but at least blame the right people. For fuck sakes

While I was very angry and depressed at first (and still am not pleased), once again the Democrats were the only adults in the room, wanting people to be fed, and paid, and mitigate the consequences of shutdown that were being exacerbated by Trump and Republicans.

Florida takes on Planned Parenthood Attorney General James Uthmeier filed a $350 million lawsuit alleging deceptive marketing practices over claims that medication abortion is safer than Tylenol.

New @motherjones.com: Florida's attorney general filed a $350 million lawsuit against Planned Parenthood this week, alleging deceptive marketing practices over claims that abortion pills are safer than Tylenol,

It's just the latest in the anti-abortion right's all-out attack against abortion pills:

Shut us down for good reason.

Open back up without any of those reasons having been fixed.

You want us to have confidence in you?

You want us to think YOU can lead US?

Don’t get me wrong, it’s good to have a chance to be back.. but our pain produced nothing in return.

I do not see enough people blaming the people who are responsible. The VOTERS. In 2016, they decided racism & misogyny were more important than experience. Then in 2024, they did it again. You can blame the Dems, but you need to be blaming the real culprits, our fellow citizens. They did this.

Afternoon reports that some Democratic Senators may yield completely to Republican demands in return for the mere scheduling of a December vote to keep premiums affordable for those relying upon the Affordable Care Act (ACA). This would represent trading something for nothing.

Exactly this β€” caving for nothing makes all that pain for nothing.

Further, them caving lends credence to this being just some political scrum when it’s actually much more fundamental than that!

Call those senators, please.

The specific requirements and process are a little more complicated than it would take to be explained (a) by me and (b) in a skeet but this is something to know!

To which we might add that, as with so many things, the solution (as proposed by some of the people discussed here) isn't simply "do as the men do"β€”it's to rethink whether the norms associated with femininity (friendliness, warmth) don't have some advantages we could do to embrace more.

Trumpβ€˜s brilliant plan of 50 year mortgages means that after your first 20 years making huge interest payments to a bank you will have paid down almost none of the principal and they will still own the house you are living in with 30 years to go. A scam from a career con man.

Republicans win and they're like: "Cool. Let's win again."

Democrats win and we're like: "How can this go wrong?"

OpenAI faces 7 lawsuits claiming ChatGPT drove people to suicide, delusions OpenAI is facing seven lawsuits claiming ChatGPT drove people to suicide and harmful delusions even when they had no prior mental health issues.

Six people died from tampered Tylenol and the company pulled 30 million bottles off the market. ChatGPT is accused of urging seven people towards suicide, and OpenAI just assures us they’re still working out the kinks. Billions in investment, zero accountability.

This.

I will say that one of the few truly generous things I’ve seen my local Kroger outlet do was to put a self-checkout over by the deli, where the microwave, the condiments, and a 2 person cafe table and chairs are. So people could buy the EBT approved cold deli stuff & heat it up right there.
