Brush comp I’ve been running for awhile. Shot is def a +1 on it, but I think new mini w/ edit would have too much charging downtime and lack aggression.

Been trying to adapt it to run cooler 96 instead, but having it play more passively for its special makes that harder. I def want zooka mini tho.

Brush is one of the only consistently off-meta weapons that has always had players playing it at high levels throughout each game. It’s such a strong weapon but non-traditional. It’s the knuckleball of splatoon, and truly good players know to respect it and play around it.

Totally. It doesn’t happen in the vast majority of matches, so why even keep it as a weapon trait 😭

20 damage from getting bumped by brush is not threatening. It can’t be abused. There is no reason for this to STILL be a thing.

Rolling knockback only frustrates players by freezing them when they’re playing what’s supposed to be the most mobile weapon in the game, and it’s time for it to go.

But this trait got applied to all “rollers” and inkbrush is still suffering from it to this day. If the tip of your brush touches anyone or anything, you’re screwed. And given that you play all game running around and weaving through people, it’s going to happen eventually.

The fact that this exists is a remnant of when rollers and brushes were considered the same class. Rollers DON’T spend the game running with the roller down. They’re stronger sharking and using their horizontal flick, so giving them knockback for the few things they can’t 1-shot is reasonable.

BUT this trait isn’t consistent across all objects (chumps, wall, rm shield, etc), which means you’re getting hit with knockback if you touch any of them. And it still applies if you hit a player.

The developers are aware this is an issue, which is why rolling inkbrush (normally 20dmg) has an absurdly high damage multiplier to certain objects such as sprinklers and beakons (120hp) to be able to crush them in 1-shot.

Hitting someone/something while rolling stunlocks you from being able to continue moving and forces you backwards, which essentially ensures your death.

It doesn’t come up often in matches, but one qol change for brushes would be to remove its knockback when hitting something while rolling- inkbrush in particular really values its uptime in running with the brush down as its primary feature.

Was watching Chara’s stream earlier on changes for each weapon and it got me thinking about what changes inkbrush needs after its indefensible falloff damage, and one aspect of the weapon that I think isn’t discussed as much is it’s knockback and how it harms the weapon.
