Finished The Will of the Many by staying up to an ungodly hour and also neglecting ALL of my weekend responsibilities. But just in time, sequel drops Tuesday. Looks like the audio book is an Audible exclusive which suuuucks, but I might just have to grin and bear it this time.

Currently re-reading The Will of The Many in preparation for the sequel release in a few weeks!

I finished an obnoxious 12 books in October, mostly audio books while recovering from Covid or pottering through mindless admin at work. Treated myself to a stack of ebooks on my kindle so looking forward to another good month.

I loathe to give a W to skinny white women in athleisure wear but unfortunately regular light exercise does in fact improve your sleep and mental health. I know, I’m also devastated.

Had a couple bangers this month so far. Finished No One Is Talking About This which is simultaneously about Twitter brain rot and also a really beautiful reflection on grief and family and humanity. Also read The Message by Ta-Nehisi Coates which felt timely.

Finished September with 11 books under the belt. Currently working my way through Invisible Child but it’s huge and also pretty heavy so I need to take frequent breaks.

Honestly I didn’t love it. Characters and pacing were really inconsistent. Incredible premise and compelling central thesis statements but to me it missed the mark of the super strong writing I’ve come to expect from Kuang. Would love to hear your thoughts if you do!

Sure I’m so so curious to hear what it was like for the Phillips kids but I really hope we don’t hear anything. I will absolutely buy their memoir in 10-15 years but until then I hope the injunction on publishing anything about them remains indefinitely. Both of these things can be true.

Had a very slow August but off to a roaring start for September! So far down 2x Emily Henry books, Fahrenheit 451, Katabasis and To Shape a Dragon’s Breath. Currently rereading Babel (same author as Katabasis and my favourite book) to check I still love it as much as I did. Firm yes to that.

Oh good! This has been the longest slump I’ve had in awhile so I’m hopeful this is the one to pull me out!

Hit a big slump recently but back into it with The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store

Finish Kamogawa Food Detectives and it was lovely! Not sure what’s up next, depends what Libby decides to deliver me first

These are my second set so I have real proof of the comfort and softness to come! But right now they’re just terrible, even with the first wash. My sensory overstimulation is weeping

Linen sheets really are that girl but the first out of the pack night on them feels reminiscent of wearing in Doc Martins and I do not like it

Took a couple days off last week because my brain was too fried to concentrate. But currently working through Their Eyes Were Watching God on audio, and Orbital as a physical. Working my way through the booker prize fics this year!

I’m Glad My Mum Died is phenomenal! Physical or audio? The audio book is narrated by Jeanette herself.

Yes! It would be perfect for that. Not too tense, mostly just joyous and delightful.

Took a break from the Evil Inc™️ book and read the sequel to The House on The Cerulean Sea by T J Klune. Truly the silliest and sweetest fantasy, I laughed and cried and kicked my little feet. An easy single day read, and just the right vibe for a cosy long weekend in!

I have started reading When McKinsey Comes to Town and it is by far the most RAGE INDUCING non fiction book I’ve ever picked up. Just abuse of power left right and centre. I may legit have to stop reading for a bit because I’m lying awake at night seething and the evilness of it all.

Finished Jade War today, and started straight in on God of The Woods because my Libby app did that annoying thing where it delivers all my holds at once!

Reading all the trending posts about the White Lotus finale and genuinely convinced I’m not watching the same show because wtf you mean this season was bad?? That was CINEMA. The THEMES, the REVEAL, the MONOLOGUES, the pre-death FLASHBACKS.

On to book 2 in the Green Bone saga - Jade War (after finishing Jade City on Friday). Bit unlike me to go straight into the sequel, but the world building and geopolitics of it all are so compelling

Not to Woke Post or anything but I feel like it’s incredibly obvious that Shonda Rhimes would NEVER produce a show where the murder was eventually pinned on a black woman or an immigrant, which narrowed the suspect pool in The Residence by like at least half. Still a delightful watch though.

It’s a short and sweet read, so worth giving it a try. Not a lot happens plot wise but there’s a very specific narrative voice, so you’ll know within the first 50ish pages if it’s for you.

I read Stone Yard Devotional on one sitting yesterday. Absolutely loved it but it’s on of those ones that I definitely wouldn’t recommend to everyone. It’s super reflective and slow and meditative. On to Jade City today, and loving it so far!
